Program Description

Junction Point provides safe and dignified 24/7 enhanced shelter and supportive services for 72 people age 50 and older experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to provide hospitable and low barrier shelter with a harm reduction model. This is to be done in the spirit of the ministry of presence, which fosters attention to the individual and respect for each person's unique situation. This shelter is for a population of older people who are vulnerable to the weather, street predators, and illness. These people may be high needs, have serious physical disabilities, chronic and acute mental illness, active chemical dependency and trauma. Junction Point Shelter emphasizes moving people into permanent housing through case management. Janitors are responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facilityj assisting with light maintenance issues, and fostering a team environment among shelter staff and volunteers. Position Description

Responsible for cleaning building common areas and units during turnover. Seek to provide tenants with a safe, positive and sanitary living environment.


Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Perform routine scheduled cleaning duties: sweep, mop, and wash walls. Clean bathrooms, food serving area and other common areas as well as, cubicles/pallet shelters, to building standards. Stock and assist with communicating inventory.
  • Pack, label and store previous client belongings.
  • Prepare vacant cubicles/pallet shelters for occupancy.
  • Maintain clean exterior of building.
  • Assist building maintenance staff and maintenance vendors as needed. Remove garbage and recycling from building following all safe trash removal protocol. Wash trash cans.
  • Regularly lift and carry supplies, donations, furnishing, etc.
  • Provide crisis intervention, and refer clients in crisis to appropriate staff on site. Assist Advocacy staff members in floor checks and cubicle/paltet shelter inspections as needed.
  • Assist Advocate and Case management staff in ensuring occupied units meet Health and Quality standards. As identified, participate in joint clean-up and/or hoarding safety efforts.
  • Model interpersonal and living skills for clients.
  • Enforce building and program rules including bar policy. Perform other duties as assigned
Gerneral Responsibilities
  • Observe/follow guidelines on confidentiality rights of residents and respect their privacy.
  • Alert management staff to issues/concerns regarding building or residents that are observed in the course of performing duties.
  • Maintain cooperative relationship with businesses in the surrounding neighborhood
  • Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services
  • Contribute to and support a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Job Conditions

This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodjjy fluidl and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals, involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building temperature fluctuations, dust, noise, and odors.

  • Able to work independently and as a team member. Able to perform tasks requirement manual dexterity.
  • Regularly able to perform duties assigned.
  • Able to see well enough to identify cleaning needs and complete to acce table standards.
