*Montgomery County Government adopted the State of Tennessee’s Hybrid Retirement Plan to be effective January 1, 2017. Any new full-time employee hired on or after January 1, 2017 will be required to enroll. As a member of the Hybrid Plan, you are required to contribute at least 5% of your salary to the defined benefit portion of the Hybrid Plan. Contributions are made on a tax deferred basis.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for the cleanliness and janitorial duties of Montgomery County parkland and facilities, to ensure the safety and well-being of all park patrons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Performs daily walk through inspection of all assigned Park properties and facilities.
  • Responsible for carrying out all janitorial duties in all Park facilities and restrooms to Montgomery County Parks and Recreation expectations. This includes but not limited to cleaning all trash cans and park furniture, toilets, sinks, partitions, floors, doors, walls, and light fixtures.
  • Responsible for arming and disarming appropriate park alarms.
  • Make sure that all supplies are stocked at each location to perform daily duties and notifying crew chief of any shortages.
  • Follow provided standard operating procedures for the park facilities.
  • Performs minor landscape maintenance functions (e.g. applications of herbicides and pesticides, watering, weeding)
  • Clean and maintain trails, playgrounds, pavilions, and open green space as assigned.
  • Requires continuous sweeping, mopping, blowing, and pressure washing of Park
  • Features including but not limited to sidewalks, furniture, pavilions, trash receptacles, dumpster bays, dugouts and bleachers.
  • Replenish all facility products and keep dispensers full for community access.
  • Position requires working evenings, weekends, special events and some Holidays.
  • Responsible for exchanging light fixtures, as well as exchanging batteries for automated door handles and commodes.
  • Keep designated work station cleaned, organized, and professional at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma (or GED) required with three plus years of janitorial experience preferred.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

This position requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and intermediate computer literacy.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Incumbent must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Incumbent must possess the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Incumbent must possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Incumbent must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Incumbent must possess the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The incumbent frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb or balance. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
