Duties

Grade 12:

  • Serves as the technical authority in the specialized field of Windows System Configuration Build and Control. Defines and develops scripts that generate Windows system builds. These builds are deployed on all CF-managed Windows systems at the CfA. Automates Windows installs, and application installs.
  • Performs security and software patching of all CF Domain systems, both workstations and servers, in accordance with SI/OCIO policy. Ivanti Security Controls is the primary tool to scan and deploy software updates and security patches to all CF managed systems. Performs scanning and patching of software updates requiring customized Ivanti SC deployments.
  • Provides technical support in the management of the Backup System for workstations and servers. Implements systems to monitor the nightly backup performance of all managed systems. Takes corrective action when backup performance is not meeting department objectives. Makes recommendations to the CF Department Manager regarding all changes or modifications to the existing backup system.
  • Performs system vulnerability testing for systems managed by the CF Windows Support group. These systems can include Windows, Servers, network scanners, network printers, and all network connected systems or appliances.

Duties at the grade 13 include those above and:

  • Serves as the Senior Windows Active Directory administrator with proficiency in Server operations that include Active Directory management and synchronization, Group Policy design, implementation and troubleshooting, Windows Server configuration, design, backup and restoration.
  • Provides technical expertise in the design and management of the Backup System for workstations and servers. Designs and implements system to monitor the nightly backup performance of all managed servers and workstations. Takes corrective action when backup performance is not meeting department objectives.

Qualifications

For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Candidates for grade 12 must possess a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 11 in the normal line of progression for this occupation. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position such as Windows configuration build management, experience in Windows Active Directory and Group Policy management, maintaining security patch levels, security scanning, and software updates with a management tool such as Ivanti.

Candidates for grade 13 must possess a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 12 in the normal line of progression for this occupation. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position such as designing, developing, and conducting quality control of scripts used in all aspects of systems management; experience in Active Directory and Group Policy management and troubleshooting and experience with backup systems management, archival and troubleshooting of all backup issues.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows System Administration including extensive knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy Object implementations.
  • Knowledge of Windows 10 build configuration on desktops and laptops sufficient to provide systems management of CF Windows Group supported user systems.
  • Scripting knowledge of DOS and Powershell scripts to manage (push) software releases and updates on managed client systems as well as for general system management tasks.
  • Experience with systems management of Windows 10 (with anniversary updates), and Windows Server (Windows Server 2016, and newer).
  • Knowledge and experience with system vulnerability scanning tools such as Nexpose and CIS-CAT including the ability to interpret scan results quickly and implement a remediation plan that removes the vulnerabilities while causing minimal impact on user productivity.
  • Excellent verbal and written and interpersonal communications skills
