Grand River Academy is seeking a learning support teacher/ support program coordinator. Must be able to work nights and weekends and live in Academy housing for the duration of assignment. Grand River Academy is a college preparatory boarding and day school located in Austinburg, Ohio, that serves over 100 young men in grades 8-12, with a post-graduate option. Room and board are provided for the successful candidate.

Job Description

The Foundations of Learning Program Associate is responsible for teaching, and working with content area teachers to ensure the needs of all students are being met. The Associate is also responsible for teaching small, intensive classes to students with mild to moderate learning challenges.

Teacher Responsibilities including but not limited to;

  • 5 Sections of Teaching
  • Works with 2-5 students at a time in a learning support setting.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other teachers to design support lessons.
  • Comfortability working with students with executive functioning weaknesses.
  • Professionally communicates with parents, Faculty and staff to meet student need and differentiate curriculum.
  • Uses a variety of data to evaluate ability and learning challenges and modifies instruction based on needs of all students.
  • After school intervention tutoring for high need students
  • Addressing academic, emotional, and social needs as a member of the guidance team.
  • Completes periodic progress monitoring to gauge student growth

Qualifications

  • Masters of Education in Special Education or Intervention Specialist License required.
  • Preference to those with 3 plus years teaching experience
  • Background and strong knowledge base in learning differences with an emphasis on executive functioning and ADHD.
  • Knowledge of mild to moderate learning differences and appropriate accommodations and support strategies
  • Experience with academic coaching, study skills, test taking skills, and remediation.
  • Preference to candidates with strong experience working with a diverse population of needs.

In addition to teaching, the other responsibilities are:

  • To correspond with each advisees family/guardians weekly.
  • To participate in the weekday, weekend and Friday afternoon duty rotation as assigned by the school.
  • To supervise two afternoon activities per week or coach a sport.
  • To obtain the permitting and maintain the ability to drive students for the school.
  • To serve as a positive role model for the students, faculty, staff and other members of the school’s community.
  • To participate in department meetings and whole faculty meetings.
  • To adhere to all policies and procedures as stated in the Faculty/Staff Handbook.
  • To perform other duties as assigned by the head of school.
  • To support the school and its leadership.
