SCHOOL SOCIAL SERVICES WORKER

JOB DESCRIPTION

DIVISION: Leadership and Planning

GRADE: Technical/Other Professional – Group B

DEPARTMENT: Student Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL: No

POSITION SUMMARY

To implement and coordinate a variety of services for targeted students who are referred to assist in the prevention and remediation of problems in attendance, behavior, health, mental health, and adjustment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors’ degree in social work or related area from an accredited educational institution Valid Florida Driver’s License and/or have access to transportation

CERTIFICATION: Valid Florida certification or licensure in school social work; or eligibility for certification in school social work, or state licensure as licensed clinical social worker, or state certification or licensure in related field

WORK EXPERIENCE: Successful experience working with at-risk youth

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters’ Degree in social work preferred
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and School Board policies applicable to assigned responsibilities
  • Knowledge of child development, mental health issues, and family dynamics
  • Knowledge of available services and how to access them
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to use technology to support assigned duties
  • Ability to interview, assess and evaluate

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of assigned program
  • Manage the tasks specific to the assignment as provided by immediate supervisor
  • Coordinate assigned programs or service areas and ensure compliance with federal, state, and district requirements
  • Complete and submit Medicaid forms for eligible students
  • Develop guides and other support materials needed by assigned programs or service area Develop or assist in the development of grants or proposals related to assignment
  • Develop partnership agreements with parents
  • Make home visits and maintain accurate written documentation of ongoing interactions Collaborate with parents, teachers, principals, and other school district personnel regarding student needs
  • Serve as liaison to outside agencies related to assigned programs or services; assist in interpreting the school program to the community, and convey related community concerns to the school Meet with community agencies and organizations to solicit resources for children and their families

Working Conditions: Normal office and school environment and/or classroom environment. Physical Demands: Routine physical activity associated with normal office and school environment. Light Work: Involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Vision: (Which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods. Hearing: (Which may be corrected) to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions. Speech: To be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone.

Upper Body Mobility: Use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.

Environmental Conditions: Encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.

Minimum Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; judgment and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.
