Job Title: Instructor, Graphic Design
Overview:
Cincinnati State invites applicants to apply for a full-time, tenure-track Instructor position in our award-winning Graphic Design program as we expand our offerings. As a full-time faculty member, the successful candidate will facilitate a classroom experience that prepares graduates to ideate, create, and refine original graphics for print and digital use. This position will be responsible for, but not limited to classroom and/or online instruction in courses such as:
  • Drawing for Multimedia
  • 2D and 3D Design Fundamentals
  • Brand Identity
  • Packaging Design
  • User Interface Design
Essential Duties:
  • Develop and deliver instruction in a design studio-influenced classroom environment that emphasizes an experiential learning model focused on student involvement and success.
  • Effectively prepare all course materials and lessons. Assist in the development of new courses/curricula, and maintain/update existing courses/curricula with particular focus on relevance to the current and future needs of the Graphic Design profession. Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.
  • Ensure that students achieve course and learning outcomes as defined by the Program Chair.
  • Complete, as directed, all start and end of semester responsibilities, including submission of no-show rosters, final grades and other designated materials to the Academic Office.
  • Maintain office hours to meet with students and handle course-related matters.
  • Respond to requests (e.g., from students, academic area chairs, department heads, committee chairs, records office) in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Support College and Division outreach and recruiting events.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary Degree in related field:
    • Associate’s Degree in related field - A successful candidate with an Associate’s Degree would be required to complete a Bachelor’s Degree within their tenure probationary period (four years)
or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • At least two years industry, business, or teaching experience in any of the related teaching subject areas.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree
  • Two years of teaching experience in an academic environment.
Desired Competencies:
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work in classrooms and studio/lab settings with students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
  • Strong visual acuity, and the ability to express both positive and negative aspects of creative work, and suggestions for improvements to that work, through individual and group critique sessions that are supportive and helpful to the growth of new and experienced designers and artists.
  • Proficiency in Graphic Design applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral, with the ability to communicate/ interact effectively with diverse professional, community, and student populations.
  • Excellent skills in customer service, problem analysis and problem solving, decision-making, project management, time management, and report writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, be self-motivated, work independently and also be committed as a team player, pay attention to detail, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere in program and curriculum development.
Preferred Competencies:
  • Proficiency in Design areas including: Brand Identity, Digital Design, Motion Graphics, Packaging Design, Page Layout, User Interface Design, Wireframing and Prototyping.
  • Proficiency in any of these or similar Graphic Design applications: HTML/CSS, WordPress, Adobe XD, Craft-InVision, Figma, InVisionSketch, Balsamiq, Octopus, Optimal Workshop, After Effects, Maya.
