Salary Range for this position is $18.98-28.44 depending on experience.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Work with staff and application vendors to implement and maintain applications as necessary in the Sheriff's Office; knowledgeable set up, support, and maintenance of technology (including stationed and mobile computers, peripherals, tablets, phones, and other technology devices).
  • Main HelpDesk support (via phone, email, and in-person) for resolution of all law enforcement related technology issues, installation, and repair. Prioritize support in a timely manner; provide prompt resolution of technology issues to assure services can be maintained by the Sheriff’s Office and partnering agencies utilizing County-owned technology.
  • Maintain existing database and software applications in the Sheriff's Office and create new applications as necessary through required programs.
  • Maintain the Sheriff’s Office software database consistent with State Statutes, Federal Laws, office records and reports as well as Data Privacy statutes relative to department records and report access.
  • Participate in Information Technology efforts, assist with relevant duties, and attend training as requested by the Information Technology Manager and the McLeod County Sheriff.
  • Provide recommendations and updates regarding technology performance, enhancements, and replacements. Place orders with vendors as directed by Information Technology management.
  • Participate in relevant committee and organization assignments as requested by the Sheriff and the Information Technology Manager.
  • Write queries to extract specialized reports from Sheriff’s Office customized software.
  • Responsible for security set up and maintenance for Sheriff’s Office technology equipment and programs.
  • Coordinate and organize multiple agency efforts during technology enhancements, upgrades, and implementations.
  • Coordinate and conduct department staff training prior to, and during, significant changes in technology practices or utilization.
  • Set up customized/specialized software and technology for the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Maintain the Sheriff’s Office content, information, and accounts for the County website, and approved social media accounts, in cooperation with Information Technology staff.
  • Deploy technology for the Sheriff’s Office and partner agencies housing County-owned technology.
  • Participate in countywide updates for technology equipment and programs.
  • Perform LASO (Local Agency Security Officer) role, when requested, for Sheriff’s Office and Local partner agencies housing County-owned technology, as required by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA).
  • Legally remove data from retired technology prior to being submitted for disposal.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Assisting Sheriff’s Office front window with coverage, when needed, to accommodate rotating break schedules.
  • Provide documentation for internal investigations.
  • Assist Information Technology department on county-wide technology efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science, plus one year of relevant experience;
  • Or 4 years’ experience in a job-related field specific to software administration;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Required Training

  • Professional training of technology equipment and programs, and, job-specific skills and certifications as required.

Required Certifications/Licenses

  • Maintain valid driver’s license and required insurance coverage.

Preferred Certifications

  • CompTIA Certificates
    • A+ Certified
    • Network+ Certified

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Extensive technical knowledge, including: computer and technology devices, programs, and Windows operating systems.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement software.
  • Knowledge of specialized policies, regulations, State Statutes, procedures and practices pertaining to the area of specialization.
  • Knowledge of legal and technical forms and terminology for the area of specialization.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, sound judgment, and reliability of time and information.
  • Ability to make independent job-related decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and external contacts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written format, in-person, and via technology programs.

Relationships

  • Regular interaction with staff, vendors, and partnering agencies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No direction supervision of employees.

Working Conditions

  • Work is mainly performed onsite at McLeod County facilities; work may be performed in local area (partnering agencies, etc.); may rarely require travel throughout the State.
  • Work requires driving to County facilities; may require use of County-owned vehicles.
  • Involves work outside of business hours upon requirement, request, or emergent issues.
  • Perform work inside of County-owned vehicles to install, troubleshoot and repair County-owned mobile technology (i.e. computers in McLeod County Sheriff’s Office vehicles); occasional work with County-owned vehicles in variable weather conditions.
  • Work may be performed in environment with emergency notification systems and events, including, but not limited to: flashing lights, sirens, and other lighted and audible devices.

Physical Requirements Of This Position

  • Desk work involving use of a computer, telephone, and other devices.
  • Mobile work involving installation, support and repair of technology devices; requires ability to maneuver within a vehicle to access mounted or stationery equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, elected officials and external contacts.
  • Ability to read screens and documents.
  • Ability to drive in various light and weather conditions.
  • Ability to type and use a computer or mobile device.
  • Office work may include reaching for documents, grasping documents, standing, walking, and repetitive motions.
  • Lift and carry files and material weighing up to 50 pounds.
