The County of Alameda Information Technology Department (ITD) is looking for a Computer Operations Specialist to join our team. This is a junior level position in support of our Operations Team. In this role, the candidate will provide support around Incident Response, Scheduling, Acceptance Testing, and other developing programs.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES; INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Works with a wide range of computer information systems; schedules production work and maintains various application databases.

2. Provides process oversight to assure continuous processing integrity of managed systems; receives input data and processes it through various application systems; performs necessary code corrections as instructed; discerns problems and develops possible solutions from system messages; determines the severity of problems and whether they are independently correctable or should be referred to higher level staff.

3. Maintains an accurate record of system errors and other difficulties as dictated by ITD procedures and guidelines; reports malfunctions to immediate supervisor, senior programmers or vendors; determines the cause of disruptions and takes action to maintain continuous processing. May make associated and minor program revisions as instructed by a supervisor or senior programmer.

4. Executes Unit, System and User Acceptance Tests in order to assure proper program and system functioning in preparation for actual production work.

5. Performs a variety of monitoring/diagnostic activities to maintain network and on-line up-time.

6. May perform system and other related equipment installations and maintenance.

7. Documents, updates and maintains operation procedures.

8. Provides guidance to lower-level Information Technology Specialists.

9. Completes technical training courses as defined by the department.

SERVICES PROVIDED:

1. Systems monitoring: Mainframe, Mid-Range Servers, Desktop, Environmentals (Fire Suppression, Access Alarms, Floor Inspections, etc.)

2. Web Applications support: Internet and Intranet Services

3. Enterprise Infrastructure Monitoring: Networking, Servers, Telephony, Radio and Desktop support

4. Production Support: Batch jobs processing (D-series), Schedule service maintenance with vendors, Web Deployments, and System Updates

5. Printing: Reports, Checks, Special Output, Quality Assurance

6. ACGOV Email Support: User Support and Resolution

7. Service Desk: Client Support Services, Password Resets, Remote Desktop Support

8. Reports: Turnover Log, Server Log, AC Backup log, Checklist

10. Documentation: Policy and Procedures

11. Warehouse Management: Inventory Tracking and Paper/Form Stock.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

· The equivalent of six months of full-time experience operating computer equipment and/or supporting computer applications.

Or

· Successful completion of a minimum of three semester (or equivalent quarter) units in information technology at an accredited college, university or technical institution such as an Introduction to Information Technology Course or other comparable course or training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Information Technology Department operates on a 24 hour-per-day, 7 day-per-week, 365 day-per-year basis. In order to provide these services, all Information Technology Department employees may be required to work grave, swing and day shifts, as well as weekends and holidays as necessary. This position does not offer teleworking.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Ability to

· Follow written and oral instructions.

· Learn to operate computers and their auxiliary equipment.

· Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

· Communicate technical details to programmers, vendors, users and others in an effective and understandable manner in order to achieve timely problem resolution.

· Exercise judgment and initiative in identifying and resolving complex technical problems.

Knowledge of

· Modern information technology concepts, methods and procedures.

· Basic knowledge of systems and application development concepts.

· Basic operating methods and uses of various computer information systems, the basic components and materials necessary for processing batch jobs and real-time jobs through enterprise computer systems.

Preferred Knowledge of

· Scheduling applications such as D-Series.

· Mainframe software apps MVS and JES.

· Ops Bridge Monitoring Tool

· SiteScope Monitoring Tool

· Print Center utilizing mainframe applications such as JES, MVS, and ISPF/PDF V3R2M0 PRIMARY OPTION MENU

· Service desk experience with emphasis on customer service

· MS Windows 10, MS Outlook, Office 365

· IBM mainframe Z12 and DS8870 Storage platforms.

· Incident reporting tool app Ivanti.
