Infection Prevention Specialist Job at Waldo County General Hospital
Position Summary
MaineHealth is seeking an Infection Prevention Specialist to join their passionate and dedicated team! The Infection Prevention Specialist I is responsible for:
- Monitoring and responding to Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI’s) and communicable infections by conducting surveillance
- Tracking cases
- Ensuring adequate isolation precautions
- Investigating suspected outbreaks
- Helping develop and implement action plans to prevent and control infections.
Additional responsibilities include: collaboration with Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP), providing input on relevant policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, ensuring adequacy of cleaning and disinfection practices, educating and coaching staff, and assuring regulatory compliance in all aspects of infection surveillance, prevention and control.
A Registered Nurse is strongly preferred but other appropriate applicants will be considered.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent training in a health related field (Nursing, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Epidemiology).
- License/Certifications: Certification by the Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) preferred.
- Experience: At least five years of relevant work experience required.
- Knowledge of regulations and standards related to infection prevention and control preferred
- Familiarity with electronic health records preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite or equivalent preferred
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate infection control practices, policies and procedures
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
- Collaborative and team oriented
