Clover Leaf is looking for an experienced ES&H Professional to join our growing team. We are looking for someone who can work as part of a team and individually. This position will require previous experience in a DoE facility within the last 5 years.

If so, we are seeking a highly motivated Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) Professional with experience implementing ES&H requirements and working in a complex technical environment. You will play a key role as you help build a strong and healthy safety culture at the Labs. In this position, you are responsible for performing a variety of environmental, safety, and occupational health related functions. This is a fast-paced job that offers a great deal of ES&H project diversity.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Assist management in implementing and assuring ES&H performance and compliance.
  • Identify and analyze hazards and risks that may create an unsafe worksite.
  • Develop, implement and communicate organization-specific ES&H policies, processes, hazard controls and tools to help staff and management meet performance expectations.
  • Perform technical analyses and evaluations and advise management on practices to resolve ES&H performance and compliance issues.
  • Conduct regular facility and work area walk-throughs and inspections.
  • Review work plans and hazard controls to determine reliability and effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation plans and strategies.
  • Provide support during ES&H audits and assessments.
  • Document and report customer concerns, findings, non-compliance issues corporate data systems and through appropriate channels.
  • Cultivate effective communications and relations with organization leadership, ES&H organization, and ES&H Coordinator community.
  • Participate in ES&H operations committees to address concerns and issues, share lessons learned and best practices, and develop corporate solutions and implementation plans.
  • Make recommendations for development of policies, processes and tools that contribute to improved safety practices.
  • Implement corporate safety initiatives and regulatory and policy updates.
  • Support management with ES&H related events, occurrences or emergencies to ensure they are adequately investigated, tracked and corrected.
  • Compile and analyze data from incidents, accidents, and near misses to identify causes or trends in support of investigations and ongoing prevention efforts.
  • Candidate must have the ability to work an off-hours schedule (i.e., swing or night shift) in a rotation with other team members.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical STEM or ES&H discipline, plus 5 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Experience recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards.
  • Familiarity and basic working knowledge of DOE and regulatory requirements related to EHS in an industrial environment.
  • Familiarity and basic working knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE clearance at the Q level.


Qualifications We Desire

  • Demonstrated ability to meet and adapt to changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Master’s degree in technical STEM or ES&H discipline.
  • Professional certification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Certified Safety Professional).
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience.
  • Previous experience as an ES&H professional.
  • Familiarity with OSHA or other regulatory discipline.
  • Accident investigation experience.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating root cause analyses.
  • Lean six sigma, ISO, or equivalent quality experience.
  • Previous experience at a Department of Energy or Research and Development facility.


Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • This position requires the successful applicant to be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The job requires bending, kneeling, ability to climb stairs and ladders, to carry equipment that may weigh up to 30 lbs., to wear various personal protective equipment including coveralls, gloves, and a full face respirator.


Work Environment:

  • This position requires the successful candidate to work in a variety of buildings (i.e., office, warehouse, research), out of doors, confined spaces, in cold and hot environments, and to operate a motor vehicle.

  • TA-55 Capital Projects is a fast paced and exciting area for an EHS professional to work. TA-55 Capital Projects TA-55 Capital Projects is responsible for managing the LANL large project portfolio which directly supports the TA-55 Weapons Program mission. Projects currently managed by TA-55 Capital Projects include the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) Project (currently with two subprojects; PF-4 Equipment Installation phase 1 (PEI) and RLUOB Equipment Installation phase 2 (REI)), Coordinate Measuring Machine phase 1 (CMM1), Coordinate Measuring Machine phase 2 (CMM2), TA-55 Reinvestment Project phase 3 (TRP III), and the Los Alamos Plutonium Pit Production Project (LAP4). The TA-55 Capital Projects mission is to safely and successfully execute the large projects needed by the Laboratory to continue its mission to maintain and certify the US nuclear stockpile.
  • This project is expected to last several years with the majority of the work being during the hours of 4pm to 230am to allow for recent Covid-19 social distancing requirements.
  • The successful candidate will support a wide variety of craft work, a wide variety of facilities and residents, and in a wide variety of work locations. An energetic, organized, and self-directed individual will find this work very fulfilling.
