Job Description


The teaching fellow is a one-year commitment to support a KIPP DC classroom with a lead teacher. A teaching fellow can be placed in a middle or high school. Fellows are an integral part of their school community and gain more responsibility in their classroom over time. After the fellowship year, fellows have an opportunity to apply to become a Capital Teaching Resident or a lead teacher. This is an exempt position and reports to the principal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take on increasingly more and different classroom responsibilities throughout the school year as determined by classroom needs and fellow performance

  • Internalize and teach developmentally-appropriate lesson plans to support student learning

  • Gather resources and prepare materials to ensure strong student engagement in lessons

  • Track, analyze, and use data to drive teaching and instruction

  • Implement school-wide student culture policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus

  • Conduct purposeful observations of lead and other excellent teachers

  • Participate in regular meetings with the lead teacher and school coach, grade level meetings, and network-wide professional development

  • Participate in and implement feedback from observations, evaluations, and feedback meetings with school leaders

  • Take on additional responsibilities throughout the school as needed


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Preferred undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0

  • A belief that all students have the right to a high quality education

  • A belief that educators play an integral role in students’ success

  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission and to advancing its antiracist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families

  • Successful track record of collaboratively working and building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders

  • Receives and reflects on feedback, while demonstrating an eagerness to grow

  • A willingness and ability to own and advocate for your learning

  • Shows initiative in generating ideas and solutions; solves problems and achieves results beyond what is expected

  • Quickly and positively accepts and adapts to new responsibilities

  • Excellent time management skills and detail- and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done


Additional Information


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Fellows receive a competitive salary of $ 40,000 and benefits through the school that employs them.

  • KIPP DC offers its employees competitive rates for medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • KIPP DC also offers its employees a 403(b) retirement account with employer contributions and matches vesting after three years.

  • Fellows are supported with on-the-job professional development, a laptop computer for work, and a cell phone stipend.

KIPP DC requires all staff to provide proof that they are up to date on their COVID-19 vaccine (meaning they have received a full course of a COVID vaccine) or obtain approval for exemption due to medical or religious reasons before beginning employment. New hires who have not received all doses of a COVID vaccine, or who are awaiting approval for exemption will not be able to begin employment.
