This role will provide human resources support to all of LAYC’s sites. Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to supporting staff onboarding and off-boarding processes, benefits administration, leave administration, and coordinating HR events (quarterly on-boarding, new hire breakfasts, summer staff picnic etc.)

LAYC/MMYC’s mission is to empower a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood, through multicultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. To achieve that mission, LAYC/MMYC provides services and opportunities to approximately 5,000 individuals annually to support academic achievement, promote healthy behaviors, and guide youth toward successful adulthood. LAYC/MMYC also conducts advocacy and public policy work to broaden opportunities for youth.


LOCATION:
Washington, DC

COMPESATION: $45,000- $55,000

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partners with Program and Functional supervisors to drive the new hire onboarding process
  • Leads the tracking and communication of LAYC’s new hire clearance process
  • Assists in the activations of new hire 90-day reviews
  • Creates and maintains all personnel files including Personnel Action Forms

Generates custom reports from HR/Payroll system

  • Maintains internal employee directory
  • Initiates off-boarding process, to include conducting exit interviews
  • Partners with Payroll and IT for new hire activation and departing staff deactivation
  • Assists in ensuring HR processes are following applicable federal, state, and local laws
  • Responsible for leave administration, communication, and tracking (FMLA, Workers Compensation, Short Term Disability).
  • Responsible for the coordination and follow through of worker’s compensation claims
  • Partners with HR Director to coordinate all employee events (New Hire Meet and Greet, Quarterly on-boarding etc)
  • Supports benefits administration function to include communicating coverage and eligibility requirements to employees and maintaining benefit enrollment paperwork.
  • Assists with Open Enrollment activities
  • Exercises good judgment and maintains confidentiality in handling critical and sensitive information, records, and reports.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or related field with one to two years of experience in an HR environment; or an associate degree in Business or related field with 2- 3 years of experience in an HR department
  • Experience with HRIS administration; preferably with ADP Workforce Now
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general human resources practices and procedures; PHR or SHRM certification preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Spanish is required
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and well organized

  • Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.
  • Successful completion of required criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances
  • LAYC/MMYC requires the COVID-19 vaccine of all its employees. You will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at the time of your interview and at your onboarding.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
