Position Summary:

The full-time Housekeeping Associate works full-time, reporting directly to the Director of Administration at the Center for Women and Children. The Housekeeping Associate is responsible for providing excellent and consistent housekeeping care at Wheeler Mission Ministries' shelter and resident facilities for individuals experiencing homelessness in the Indianapolis community.

Qualifications:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Possess a sincere love of Christ and maintain a Christian walk that is evident of that love. Individual must be willing to sign and adhere to the WM Statement of Faith.
  • Dependability – consistently at work and on time, reports to all scheduled shifts, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve personal performance, and completes tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to excellent care and high-quality work, exercising patience and precision when performing maintenance-related work
  • Shows a keen attention to detail and is a self-motivated worker that can accomplish tasks independently
  • Has ability to operate gas powered equipment such as power sprayers, snow blowers, and lawn mowers. Must also be able to operate industrial appliances such as washing and drying machines and electric or manual cleaning equipment.
  • Technology skills – must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, SharePoint)

Essential Requirements:

  • The Housekeeping Associate is responsible for providing general care of floors, restrooms, shower rooms, glass, and outside properties. This includes but is not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning sinks, showers, toilets, windows, and mirrors, picking up daily debris, and shoveling/salting snow as needed.
  • The Housekeeping Associate must watch for facility or equipment malfunctions and report any facility issues to their supervisor immediately.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor in order to maintain safe, clean, and functional facilities at WM.

Work Environment:

The Housekeeping Associate must be able to carry out the required job duties in a fast-paced Christ-Centered environment that is grace-based, trauma informed, and strengths focused. The Housekeeping Associate will work in Wheeler's various facilities that serve homeless, addicted, and crisis-experiencing populations. The facilities have a variety of layouts that include kitchens, dining rooms, residential areas, sleeping spaces, orientation rooms, etc. Facilities team members must be familiar with all spaces to cover facility and housekeeping needs for the Ministry. Some weekend or evening work will be required.


Physical Demands:

The Housekeeping Associate must be able to lift at least 20 pounds and walk or stand for long periods of time. They must be able to effectively communicate with their supervisor, peers, and ministry guests in order to discuss housekeeping needs, understand what needs to be completed, and perform their duties.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A sincere love for Jesus Christ and desire to do His work
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • A valid Indiana Driver’s License and ability to be insured by WM’s auto-insurance policy

Background Investigation and Drug Testing:

  • After a “conditional offer of employment” is made, the individual must pass a background investigation which includes a consumer credit investigative report.
  • Wheeler Mission Ministries has a mandatory drug testing policy for all new employees. The successful applicant must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to WM Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

This position requires both a conflict of interest statement and a confidentiality statement.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position may occasionally supervise or lead groups of volunteers.


Expected Hours of Work:

The Housekeeping Associate is full-time, non-exempt and is expected to work 40 hours per week. Hours will vary and will include evening or weekend work.


Travel:

The Housekeeping Associate must occasionally travel between WM’s facilities in Indianapolis in order to perform job duties.
