Purpose:

Implements the volunteer program throughout the designated service area, and recruits, directs, and educates volunteers. Responsible for assisting in designing and implementing new programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, recruits and educates new volunteers. Schedules and facilitates training sessions.
  • Assigns volunteers to meet the needs of patients/families, facilities or the office setting.
  • Participates in the design of new volunteer programs and implements once developed.
  • Attends and participates in interdisciplinary group meetings per the direction of the team, identifying patients who may benefit from volunteer services.
  • Actively participates in team meetings, committees and quality improvement planning and processes.
  • Holds quarterly education sessions for volunteers.
  • Provides support, guidance and recognition to current volunteers.
  • Actively seeks opportunities in the community to educate on the volunteer program.
  • Documents accurate and ongoing patient information, with in the patient medical record. All documentation is complete according to organizational, and professional standards. All documentation is completed as it occurs.
  • Assists patients, family members and all contacts according to the general performance standards, demonstrating organizational values with all interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or 3 years equivalent work experience
  • Volunteer Management Specialist Certificate preferred
  • Strong keyboarding skills and computer skills with the ability to learn work-related software
  • Ability to plan, organize and utilize teaching principles in working with families, patients and other community organizations
  • Ability to use administrative skills and to supervise and coordinate services
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to develop relationships with other employees, patients/families, volunteers and within the community
  • Sensitive to the needs of terminally ill patients and families and one’s own feelings about dying and death
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing and in public
  • Mandatory Reporter of Child and Dependent Adult abuse training certification (within 30 days of hire)
  • Must have valid driver's license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation if driving is required
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, 2-step TB test and background check

Working Conditions:

  • Physical requirements: Sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally, and/or a small amount of force frequently to move objects, including the human body
  • Physical activities: bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, fingering and gripping and reaching
  • Environment: Patients’ homes or cubicle space at designated location; Environment may vary
  • Travel: Required between locations
  • Time: Work hours based on patient-driven census model
