During hands-on training you will learn that part of our horse management philosophy is that horses do not display bad behavior - they express information and it is up to us to be open to hearing what they are saying, and then respond in an appropriate manner. An individual's work day will consist of: feeding grain and supplements to horses/ providing hay/ picking up manure/ cleaning waterers and cleaning horse sheds.

Position responsibilities:

• Feed Wild Fed grain and supplements to certain horses
• Fill hay nets
• Record number of hay bales used and produced
• Pick out Huisache thorns from hay nets/ hay. Also keeping an eye out for trash that needs to be taken out of the hay as well
• Clean horse waterers
• Pick up manure in pens (3x/ week) and in sheds (everyday)
• Clean/ sweep sheds
• Clean/ monitor water tanks
• Various other duties as needed by the Equine Manager, i.e: putting out salt/ minerals, hot wire assistance, fence building, helping with consultants

• Patient and observant
• Positive attitude and dependable
• Open-minded and willing to learn our process and understand our goals
• Able and willing to follow written and verbal direction
• Has awareness of self and immediate environment
• Detail oriented
• Must be able to lift and walk with over 60 lb hay bales
• Able and willing to work 40 hour weeks outdoors and in all weather conditions. The 40 hours will be rotated through the week dependent on the seasons and weather.
• Able to work alone as well as with a team.
• Horse experience is not necessary, there is ongoing training at every level

• Learn how to encourage prairie like pasture growth through organic fertilizer and holistic grazing management skills.
• Opportunities to learn plant species and what they tell us about the health of the land.
• Learn how to calmly, easily move horses/ cattle to new grazing areas
• If interested, learn low stress management skills when working with cattle
