Purpose of Position

THIS PSOTING WILL BE USED FOR ONGOING RECRUITENT AND MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME. APPLICAT LISTS MAY BE SCREENED MORE THAN ONCE.

Why does the job exist?

Position will operate medium to heavy duty equipment to maintain interstate, roads, roadways and highways for the safety of the traveling public. Position will perform various duties related in all phases of the Heavy Maintenance Crew.
NOTICE: This is a District Wide Traveling Crew. Heavy Maintenance.

How does it get done?

Maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loader, blade, five- and ten-yard dump truck, self propelled broom, roller, and/or mower. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsement.

Who are the customers?

The traveling public.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in:
Operating a 10-yd dump truck, motor grader, backhoe or loader, tractor with a mower attachment, a roller and a water truck;
Road repairs;
Performing highway snow removal operations;
Performing roadway maintenance activities, such as fence installation/repair, sign installation/repair, guardrail repair, roadway patching, etc.; and
Performing traffic control operations, such as traffic control set-up or removal, monitoring of traffic control

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loader, five and ten yard dump truck, self -propelled broom, roller, and/or mower. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsement. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Statutory Requirement:
Must possess a New Mexico Drivers License and must acquire a New Mexico Class B CDL within 6 months of hire. Post-offer Physical and Pre-Employment Drug Test are required for safety sensitive classifications.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated August 12, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

In addition, employees working in State correctional facilities who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to inmates are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow, exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash, exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, stressful situations, subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain, high speed/high volume traffic, interaction with the public, local county, school and city officials by phone an in person, irregular hours day or night, subject to call out for emergencies, heavy lifting, sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays; extended or irregular hours day or night; and call-out away from post of duty to include night time work and snow removal as applicable are required.
