Who We Are:

AHRC NYC’s Advance & Earn is a Free 20-week program with financial incentives that supports New York City’s Opportunity Youth (16-24) to identify their career aspirations, build a path to success, and go out into the workforce and Thrive! Offered at the Staten Island Workforce Development Center (136 Bay Street), Advance & Earn helps jumpstart the careers of New York City youth through comprehensive High School Equivalency (GED) test preparation, employer-recognized trainings and certifications, paid internships, job placements and more.

Pre-GED Instruction / GED Preparation / Paid Internships

Participants without a high school diploma will take part in either the Pre-GED instruction or GED Preparation programs and receive:

  • In-person, small group sessions with individualized attention
  • Academic instruction to prepare for the GED exam
  • Work readiness training
  • Job placement assistance
  • Industry credential attainment
  • College and career preparation
  • Counseling and social /emotional support
  • $150 weekly stipends for academic work(Pre-HSE Track)
  • Paid internships with industry leaders, $15/hour for up to 250 hours (HSE Track)
  • Daily lunch, MetroCard, and laptop or tablet provided
  • Support to obtain needed services and benefits
  • Classes 2 to 4 times a week at 136 Bay Street

Qualified Participants:

  • Are 16 to 24 years old
  • Live in any of the five boroughs of New York City
  • Are out of school and have no post-secondary degree (Associates or higher)
  • Are unemployed, or working less than 35 hours per week
  • Are legally authorized to work in the United States

Job Types: Part-time, Internship

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
