Job Summary

Responsible for achieving operational excellence in a manner that prioritizes worker safety and regulatory compliance. Install new recycling and material handling equipment, conduct routine maintenance, and troubleshoot down equipment. Lead the existing technicians to meet deadlines, quality, and service deliverables.

Accountabilities

The Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Operator’s primary function is to ensure operational excellence, with an emphasis on overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and Health & Safety compliance with company standards. Serve as a first-line supervisor directing and coordinating a variety of installation, repair, and maintenance tasks performed by maintenance technicians. Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees, interacting with Ops, Engineering, and our customers. This includes but is not limited to:

Reference site-specific procedures and safe work instructions

  • Service and maintain recycling equipment
  • Complete records such as work orders, P.M.s, checklists, and supply requisitions
  • Perform tasks per preventative maintenance checklist
  • Maintain site maintenance records, inventory levels, and PM schedules.
  • Diagnose and repair gear motors, conveyors, dust collectors, hydraulic systems, drives, air conditioning systems, and electrical systems
  • Perform repairs with limited supervision with higher level of responsibility for repair
  • Assume ownership of difficult maintenance issues while maintaining integrity with co-workers and management
  • Effectively interact with equipment operators/teams in a professional manner
  • Disassemble and assemble machines/components. Recondition/repair as required.
  • Work overtime as required by workload and company need
  • Select proper tooling for any standard job and demonstrate proficiency with diagnostic tools.
  • Perform diagnostics and organize appropriate repair procedures.
  • Successfully complete appropriate training sessions as required.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper application of hand, pneumatic and electric tools.
  • Assist other technicians in repair tasks such as removal, installation, and repair of components/machines.
  • Perform tasks from verbal/written instructions and communicate effectively with supervisor and fellow employees.
  • Retain acquired knowledge; build competencies and share skills with other technicians.
  • Work alternate shifts as required by workload.
  • Participate in any and all appropriate training.
  • Evaluate and verify employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
  • Identify staff development and training needs and ensures that training is up to date.
  • Availability to work weekends and extended hours as needed


Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Ability to lift, pull or push up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time; ability to kneel, crawl, twist, or reach
  • Ability to wear level B or C PPE for extended period of time
  • Electrical system troubleshooting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to influence without authority
  • Able to work independently, efficiently, and effectively
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background screen, physical, and drug-screen


Education/Experience

  • High school education or equivalent
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working in a fast-paced industrial environment
  • Experience servicing stationary plant equipment and heavy machinery
  • Experience leading a team
  • CMMS experience
