GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Health Services Assistant directs the provision of high-quality nutrition services and nutrition promotion and education for infants, toddlers, and families. Assists Health/MH/Nutrition Manager in the development and oversight of the Child and Adult Care Food Program application and it’s implementation by providing training and technical assistance to program and center staff. Collaborate with community partners, parents, and nutrition providers in advancing healthy nutrition awareness and education
This position also supports the provision of medical and dental health services for all enrolled children and insures compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards pertaining to Health including applicable state health regulations. Adhere to best health care principles and practices. Establish/maintain comprehensive recordkeeping and reporting and data collection systems. Interaction with children, staff, parents, and the larger community is also required.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Engage in comprehensive, integrated planning with management team:
  • to develop/improve nutrition goals/outcomes that support school readiness.
  • to develop/improve the Urban Strategies EHS Holistic Health Care System that integrates nutrition into physical health, oral health, mental health services and safety practices.
  • to ensure the implementation of a Nutrition System throughout the program.
  • to develop/improve a holistic health care system that encompasses physical health, oral health, nutrition, mental health services and safety practices.
  • to ensure the implementation of the health care system at each center.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedure for the Nutrition System and its implementation.
  • Assist with the development and administration of the CACFP budget and assures fiscal integrity with the guidance of the Health/MH/Nutrition Manager
  • Assists with the CACFP annual compliance evaluation
  • Assist in the assessment of community, program, child, and family health care needs and available resources.
  • Assist with the collection of data for the Community Assessment.
  • Assist with the annual program self-assessment and federal onsite review process, focused on the holistic health care system; report on strengths, recommendations, required improvements; implement improvements and recommendations; incorporate into program planning process.
  • Collaborate with Health/Mental Health Manager and Family/Community Partnership Manager to assure achievement of nutrition services goals and outcomes for children and families.
  • Collaborates with the Health/MH/Nutrition Manager in the assessment, development, and implementation of a training and technical assistance program for addressing nutrition safety practices in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and Child and Adult Care Regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Health/MH/Nutrition Manager on the assessment of community, program, child, and family nutritional needs and available resources; compile and analyze data, produce reports, assure the integration of children with disabilities, dual language learners, homeless children and children in foster care.
  • Participate in the Health Services Advisory Committee and maintain ongoing collaborative relationships with community organizations responsive to the nutrition wellness of infants and toddlers and their families.
  • Assist with Health trainings.

EXPERIENCE and/or REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED

  • Nurse Assistant or Medical Assistant Certification/Degree or Associate Degree with knowledge of health services or An Associate Degree in Food Service/Nutrition related field plus equivalent experience, course work, and certifications in nutrition
  • Two or more years of experience as a nurse assistant or medical assistant or experience with CACFP Program
  • Upon hire, must obtain Texas Food Manager Certification
  • Competency in using computer hardware and software to effectively maintain health services records and social services records.
  • Communication and demonstrated experience in delivering presentations on health topics.
  • Must have Valid Driver’s License, Personal Vehicle and Liability Insurance required.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE and/or REQUIREMENTS

  • Three or more years of experience working in health services at Head Start, early childhood services or community health services with demonstrated expertise in child and community health issues and social services issues required.
  • Current training/certification requirements to teach Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards preferred.
  • Advance knowledge of MS Office Suite.

ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION

WORKING CONDITONS

Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds and use hands and fingers to fill out required forms. Ability to lift infants and toddlers weighing up to forty (40) pounds, twenty (20) pounds overhead and forty (40) pounds from waist to shoulder; occasional lifting of fifty (50) pounds is required and must be able to push/pull up to fifty pounds horizontally. Ability to sit on the floor, bend at the waist, kneel and/or stoop 75% of the time.

SALARY

$15.53/hourly $32,302/yearly
