SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

Instructs athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student(s) shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.


SUPERVISED BY: Athletic Director and Principal

SUPERVISES: Athletes and Assistant Coach(es)

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

1. Develop and present a policy on lettering to supervisors for review and approval prior to the first seasons contest.
2. Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques that will be taught.
3. Responsible for operation within budget appropriations and participates in the budgeting function with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the current and next season.
4. Recommend equipment guidelines as to type, style, color, or technical specifications and is accountable for all equipment and collets the costs of any equipment lost or not returned.
5. Arrange for the issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records concerning same.
6. Responsible for meeting with parents and participants prior to the start of the sport season.
7. Provide program expectations, procedures and policies to parents and participants.
8. Delegate specific duties, analyze staff effectiveness.
9. Evaluate assistant coach(s).
10. Have knowledge of athletic policies approved by the Eagle County Schools and CHASSA and are responsible for implementation within the coaching staff.
11. Have knowledge and be able to implement CHSAA, national, and league regulations.
12. Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled practices/sporting events or and adheres to scheduled facility times.
13. Assist in providing documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examination, parental consent, and eligibility, and proof of insurance.
14. Report in writing, ineligibility status for players the first working day following an event to the athletic director, league schools and CHSAA headquarters.
15. Monitor student athlete’s grades and conduct in regards to eligibility.
16. Supervise athletic participants from the time they report to the practice site or game until they leave at the conclusion of the activity.
17. Provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete participant.
18. Direct and guide assistants, statisticians and student managers.
19. Monitor athletic areas.
20. Promote the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in another sports’ programs and promotes the sport outside the school through news media, youth programs, or in any other feasible manner.
21. Responsible for knowledge, understanding and enforcing all aspects of the Eagle County Schools athletic handbook.
22. Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, their care, and proper use.
23. Attend all practices, games, and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
24. Assist the athletic director in scheduling and requirements for tournaments and special sporting events.
25. Provide proper safeguard for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
26 Present information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments and contest results.
27. Perform other duties assigned.
28. Utilize only team building exercises that do not include harassment or hazing
29. Within 24 hours of an incident, completes paperwork on all athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to athletic office.

1. Meets CHSAA certification requirements
2. Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
3. Successful coaching experience in assigned sport
4. Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and at the same time must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
5. Demonstrated effective problem solving skills
6. Coaching experience and knowledge of CHSAA
