Candidates must be able to meet the standards required to obtain and hold a Secret or Higher US Government Clearance(if applicable).


Job Description:

  • Read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans.
  • Install piping with the use of instruments such as lasers, grade rods or transit levels checking for slope and conformance to specifications.
  • Cut pipe to required lengths utilizing various saws.
  • Connect pieces and seal joints on concrete reinforced piping.
  • Assist with equipment operators on covering pipes.
  • Align and position pipes and prepare them for sealing.
  • Layout pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervision.
  • Grade or level trench bases using tamping machines or hand tools.
  • Tap or drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
  • Located existing pipes needing repair or replacement using magnetic or radio indicators.
  • Work with and signal equipment operators.
  • Working from drawings, markers, and verbal instructions.
  • Train or supervise others in laying pipe.

Qualifications:

  • High Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in construction field work.
  • Minimum two (2) to three (3) years of experience as a pipe layer.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operations.
  • General knowledge of construction materials and processes.
  • Strong Communication skills.
  • Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of trench holes several times a day.
  • Must withstand vibration from track and job site conditions as well as noise from other equipment.
  • Must be able to use arms, hands, and feet in repetitive motions.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to follow supervisory verbal and written instructions and designated health and safety requirements.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions or difficult terrain.

Special Requirements:

  • Must pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach and signal with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

Working Environment:


A typical day for an excavator operator is spent sitting while operating equipment for several hours at a time in conditions that can be unpredictable; for example, working conditions may be noisy, cold, hot and dusty.
