GENERAL LABORER JOB DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Capable of assisting and performing maintenance and grounds functions with abilities in electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, lawn cutting, field lining, and snow removal; assist/perform grounds duties; may be required to perform some custodial duties as needed. Must possess a valid driver's license and CDL.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Move equipment such as food service, band equipment, and transports from inside or outside of district.

2. Delivery of mail from building to building and post office.

3. May be required to perform some custodial duties as needed.

4. Open, close, and secure buildings.

5. Responsible for snow and ice removal on all district properties.

6. Repair locks, doors, lockers and clocks (including setting of clocks) as required.

7. Repair Sloan valves, faucets, sinks, drinking fountains, other plumbing fixtures and opening of clogged drains.

8. Repair light switches, lights, outlets, motors, wiring replacement. Complete other minor electrical repairs as required.

9. Check, maintain, and repair roof conditions. Replace broken glass.

10. Paint walls, doors, and trim as needed.

11. Repair furniture, shelving, doors and other related equipment

12. Repair and replace domestic hot water pumps and heating related systems.

13. Drywall and repair wall systems. Perform light masonry, installation of floor tiles, cove base, and stair treads.

14. Install bulletin boards and dry erase boards.

15. Responsible for all facility maintenance as directed by Director of Physical Plant Services.

16. Responsible for operating equipment such as snow plow, front end loader, dump truck, tractors, lawn movers, chain saw, and field lining equipment.

17. Remove trash/debris for all district buildings and grounds.

18. Maintain all athletic areas including debris, weeds, trimming, edging, tree trimming, and moving of all grass.

19. Maintain sprinkler systems in district.

20. Responsible for planting and watering of trees and grass.

21. Perform other related duties as determined by administration in order to continue district operations.

GENERAL: Staff should have knowledge of grounds maintenance and general maintenance as stated above. Be able to work alone or with others and lead a crew if needed. Must attain CDL within agreed time frame of hire and be subject to random and other drug and alcohol tests, as required by the District of CDL holders. Must maintain a valid driver's license, have a current D.O.T physical and a satisfactory driving record.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: May perform any combination of the following or similar tasks as directed: sweep, dust, wipe off floors and designated surfaces. Pick up parts, debris, and other materials within capacities noted on attached Job Analysis. Organize materials in area as directed; May use hose to wash designated floors and walls. May clean tables and counters in break rooms. May sharpen various blades, including lawn mower blades. May assist other craftsmen. May act as courier, picking up parts or delivering tools or supplies. May go to other district buildings and do preventative maintenance on doors with the following procedures: tighten and secure loose screws, bolts, nuts, and other fasteners on doors, door hinges, locks, and operational apparatus. May lubricate hinges and locks. Make adjustments on closers as directed. May tighten fasteners on restroom partitions or other areas as directed. Document

and notify locksmith if malfunctioning equipment is observed. Drive various grounds equipment such as lawn mowers, parking lot blowers, and snow plows. Clean and do preventative maintenance on grounds equipment. May help as skills permit in assembly and disassembly of equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, climb ladders, walk on roofs, walk and stand, travel from building to other sites, and drive a vehicle requiring a commercial driver's license. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus (see attached Job Analysis). The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet and noisy environments.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both inside and outside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee will frequently work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job.
