Job Description – Material Handler

SUMMARY

Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site by

performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
**

  • Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain coils and tubing to be moved to warehouse for storage, coils to be moved to mills or tubing to be moved to cutting area.
  • Unloads unbound shipments of coils from steel suppliers.
  • Moves coils to mills and tubing to warehouse or tubing to cutting area utilizing lift truck.
  • Verifies tonnage on inbound shipments of coil stock.
  • Assists inventory control in locating coil stock where tags are missing.
  • Attaches inventory control tags on inbound coils.
  • Assists in Shipping Department, as required.
  • Assist in physical inventory on a quarterly basis, or as required.
  • Blows out tubing as required or directed by supervisor.
  • Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist loading or moving materials and products.
  • Assists in the Mill Department/Recut Department as required.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram
form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
