The General Construction Labor technician must be able to perform the most skilled and semi-skilled trades to ensure project completion. This person works at the direction of the Superintendent on a multifamily project from the field to ensure the quality, on-time, and on-budget completion of each project. Also works closely with the subcontractors to monitor their installations, overall site safety and timelines are maintained. Must have a high degree of reliability, ability to work independently, inspire trust, and work well with others without conflict. Must be able to travel by car as needed. Construction projects are located in Kilmarnock and Newport News VA. $20 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs light painting, general carpentry, floor leveling, fire caulking, general caulking, drywall tape/mud/finish repairs, minor demolition, and construction repairs.
  • Operates small machinery (mini excavator, skid steer, telehandler) as required.
  • Ensure that all fieldwork is being performed with a high standard of quality and in an efficient manner.
  • Pick up and deliver misc. small material orders to your job sites.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Multi-trade maintenance skillset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of multifamily construction trades, multifamily building codes, and accepted industry practices.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Experience operating Operates small machinery (mini excavator, skid steer, telehandler) helpful.
  • Possess/maintain valid driver’s license & driving record consistent with CHP insurability guidelines.
  • Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through own actions and mentoring others.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • A commitment to job site safety.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of similar work experience.

Working hours may vary, but the customary schedule is Monday through Friday between 7:30 am-4:30 pm. The nature of duties requires some early morning, late-night, and weekend hours.
