Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP grant is a partnership project with public schools, higher education, communities, financial institutions and business organizations who work together to provide students and their families a range of support services needed to prepare for them college

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling or related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in academic advising, assessment, teaching, careerdevelopment, financial aid, and/or counseling
  • Training or experience in counseling secondary students
  • Experience in coordinating extracurricular activities is a plus
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to the mission of Eastern Oklahoma State College
  • Ability to organize, file, and submit documentation in a timely manner

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work independently and without daily supervision
  • Develop and deliver services to target schools, including academic and career advising,financial aid, tutoring, and college and career awareness
  • Mentor students
  • Ensure weekly in-person tutoring programs are initiated and monitor the programs ateach assigned target schools
  • Develop and implement an effective program of field trips—to visit colleges/universitiesand educational/cultural sites for students
  • Organize trips and events for participants, coordinating with other GEAR UP staff
  • Actively participate in summer camp planning and activities
  • Develop activities to involve and inform parents of participating students
  • Schedule and provide informational sessions and workshops for participants and parents
  • Track and record data as needed
  • Compile/Prepare all required documentation in a timely manner
  • Assist in completing annual reports and other required compliance documents
  • Participate in training and attend conferences, as needed
  • Office in McAlester, office hours from 8 am to 5 pm
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary or as assigned
  • Be able and willing to work flexible and/or extended hours
