Overview

The Fully Remote Instructional Design Manager (IDM) will develop online courses and also oversee a team of Instructional Design Technology Specialists. The IDM will ensure the quality production of online courses that are both aligned with programmatic outcomes and established design values for online programming. This position will oversee end-to-end development of a portfolio of online courses for a growing suite of programs offered across a variety of platforms, disciplines, and audiences. The IDM will be responsible for the production processes and overall planning and scheduling for internal and external course development for the assigned programs. The IDM will manage the quality assurance processes and monitor quality metrics. The IDM will collaborate with and provide IDTS backup support for the LMS administrator and course support team to solve course-related design/ performance errors. The IDM will also lead innovative departmental projects; provide consulting and training to faculty and staff on the use of computer-based instructional and multimedia applications; assists with the technical and programmatic developments of assigned projects and applications, and provides assistance with planning and coordinating materials with the course instructor(s) and dean/program director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage multiple online instructional design projects by applying instructional design principles and theories while adhering to university online course design standards.
  • Supervise the work of a team of instructional design technology specialists.
  • Collaborate with the leadership at the university in new program development, curricular renovation, faculty development, and the design of online courses.
  • Identify the pedagogical best practices and supporting educational technologies needed for the department to support student success and retention.
  • Work with faculty, deans, and stakeholders to articulate the goals, assessments, activity paths, learning objects, and content for each program and/or course.
  • Manage university’s course development projects. Creation and maintenance of course design templates and guidelines, including processes, standards, styles, and preferred models for course elements, including the usage and tagging of assets and outcomes.
  • Create and implement quality assurance and quality control processes. Evaluate available feedback from students, staff, and faculty to regularly improve Instructional Design operations and established workflows.
  • Supervise a team of Instructional Design Technology Specialists. Ensure curriculum projects are appropriately resourced; communicate projected gaps in resources.
  • Responsible for the administration and maintenance of curriculum development systems (Frost, Kuali, JIRA, etc.).
  • Maintain the department's knowledge center and documentation to support knowledge transfer across internal and external staff.
  • Develop and conduct collaborative training sessions for internal and outsource teams ensuring team utilization of best practices and technologies.
  • Clearly communicate expectations, deliverables, and deadlines using excellent interpersonal, written communication, oral communication, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field is preferred. Extensive work experience will be considered in place of a MS degree in a related field.
  • At least five years of relevant work experience in the design, development, and delivery of online course materials and education programs.
  • At least 5 years of process management experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading and managing a team.
  • Experience working in developing and creating higher education online curriculum and courses.
  • Experience with developing MOOC types of courses.
  • Experience with developing Competency-Based Education.
  • Experience in developing Interactive, learner engaging elements within the course design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles.
  • Ability to apply quality management principles.
