General Description and Classification Standards

Serves customers of City dining facilities by serving food, operating cash register, and maintaining clean, organized, and stocked food service area. Responsible for monitoring food service and ensuring safe storage and handling of food/beverages. Supervision Received Works under minimal supervision; can set own work sequence and pace within process/department limitations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Assists with food preparation, service of meals, and cleaning service area and kitchen. Cleans dining facility and keeps in orderly condition. Assists with training and supervision of cook aides. Assists in receiving and stocking incoming shipments of inventory. Determines inventory needs and submits order requests. Washes dishes and empties trash daily. Stocks utensils, napkins, straws, etc. for customer use. Operates cash register, collects/reconciles payments and balances drawer at shift end.

Decision Making

Follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. Leadership Provided None. May oversee temporary or contract workers as needed. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. Knowledge of safe food handling, preparation, and storage. Customer service skills. Skill in operating cash register. Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations. Ability to follow directions and work effectively within a team. Ability to work long hours while standing. Ability to read, write and speak English Ability to follow both written and spoken instructions.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

No prior experience required.

Preferred Education & Experience

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and some food service experience, may be paid or volunteer, part time or full time

Licensures and Certifications None required.
