The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) is hiring for part-time and full-time Food Service Assistant 2 positions, to join the Dietary Services team. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is in Racine County, a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and other key locations in southeastern Wisconsin.

Sign-On Bonus of $2000 for eligible new hires who agree to remain in the job for one year. $1000 will be paid in the employee's first paycheck and $1000 will be paid when the employee completes a probationary period.

Position Summary


Come join the dedicated team that serves nutritious and delicious meals to Wisconsin Veterans who call our facility Home.

Under general supervision, the Food Service Aide at WVHUG interprets diet orders on tray lines following food safety and sanitation standards. This position also assists with quantity food production, performs breakfast or grill cooking, transports food carts between kitchen and servery areas, and works catered functions. The employee is an important part of the food service team.

Salary Information


Starting wage will be $16.18 per hour or a new rate provided by the State Compensation Plan at the time of appointment. Additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Part-time and full-time positions are eligible for an attractive employee benefits package.

Sign-on bonus of $2000 for eligible new hires.

The position is in pay schedule-range 03-09. For current State employees, pay on hire will be set following the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

The position is not represented by a bargaining unit.

Job Details


The positions work standard 10-hour shifts including weekends on a rotating basis and require working overtime as needed.

Duties of the position include moving carts weighing an average of 500 pounds safely through hallways; moving equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds; moving equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance; and performing medium to heavy manual labor.

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in the position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Employees at this healthcare facility are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by date of hire. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis for exemptions to this requirement in accordance with applicable law.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have experience in:

  • Production assembly (e.g., measuring quantity, ensuring standards, meeting quota, labeling and dating, quality checks, prepping supplies and equipment, reading production lists/sheets, working line stations, following production schedules, tallying, inspecting product, maintaining clean and safe area, setting up and taking down equipment, loading and unloading, etc.)
