- Background -

In 2013, the City of Flint adopted their first new Master Plan in over 50 years. The new plan utilizes unprecedented use of strategic community engagement and input. Community Education was on the top of the priorities for all residents of the City of Flint. As the lead agency for Community Education, the Crim Fitness Foundation has utilized AmeriCorps service as a core strategy to ensure student success is at the forefront of Community Education. AmeriCorps service members support success mentoring, physical activity programs, education activities, partner & volunteer engagement, and family engagement.

- Position -

This is an AmeriCorps service position. AmeriCorps is a form of national service, like the military. Members serve a community for a specific period of time in order to receive numerous benefits. AmeriCorps is like a year long interview with local non-profit and government entities. AmeriCorps alumnus have often moved on to permanent employment or management positions throughout Flint

The Community Resource Developer AmeriCorps VISTA position focuses on community partnerships, volunteer engagement, and developing resources for the community education initiative. VISTA's ultimate goal is to eradicate poverty though capacity building.

- Duties -

Partnerships: Build up existing partnerships between community organizations and Flint Community Schools (FCS)- Create new partnerships between nonprofit organizations, local businesses, social services and FCS - Create a succession packet including all information of new and existing partners

Volunteers: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to serve with community education in FCS - Partner to develop at least one day of service event

Resources: Collaborate with other members to implement other fun, safe, quality and educational programming and activities that support students and help meet the goals of the community education initiative - Build materials and resource for the community education initiative

- 35 Hours a week

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17552.08 per year

$6,400.00 for higher education
