The City of Norfolk’s Department of General Services is currently seeking qualified candidates with proven experience in delivering exceptional leadership and management skills for the position of Fleet Maintenance Manager.

The successful candidate will be an assertive, creative, hands-on manager with excellent leadership, organizational and decision-making skills, strong analytical expertise. Candidate must also have excellent communication, writing, and listening skills that will contribute to continuously improving the City’s Fleet maintenance and repair operations.

Essential Functions
Various key assignments/tasks will include:

  • Establish a clear vision for the Fleet Maintenance Division by defining standards for services and work processes that take into consideration best management practices, enhanced customer service, cost efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee fleet operations by providing leadership and guidance to operations and administrative staff, assessing organizational readiness needs including selecting, coaching, disciplining, training and evaluating employees; and ensure compliance with all regulations and policies.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of asset management strategies that will maximize vehicle life and performance, including robust preventative maintenance programs.
  • Oversee the division’s short-term and long-term fleet replacement strategy to confirm that an effective process is identified and implemented to ensure timely vehicle/equipment replacements.
  • Manage financial operations by developing, evaluating and monitoring the budget, conduct and oversee various financial analyses, and supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Provide effective Fleet-related support to departments within the City by acting as a liaison, and building strong working relationships with the third-party contractors, and vendors.
Education/Experience

The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of fleet operations management and a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Project Management, Logistics or similar field or experience and at least five (5) years of management experience, preferably in public or private fleet operations.

Additional Information & Requirements

Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for new hires. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.
