Position Title: Financial Analyst

Reports to: Manager, Treasury Operations

Location: Atlanta, GA (*On-site)


  • Incumbent must work in office in Atlanta four (4) days per week and may work remotely one (1) day per week with manager approval

Summary:

This is a shared-resource position that provides an opportunity to be exposed to a number of activities in the Finance, Treasury and Financial Planning & Analysis areas. Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks involving cash management and treasury operations as well as assignments in other Financial Services areas including Debt Management and Financial Planning and Analysis. Assignments are designed to expand practical experience and to develop professional judgment and decision making necessary to attain stated objectives, and to assure the proper application of established policies, procedures and guidelines.


Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

The scope and duties of this position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of MEAG Power.

  • Acts as a back-up to and assists the Cash Management Coordinator. This is anticipated to be a priority during the last week of the month.
  • Processes invoices for Financial Services area and ensures timely payment.
  • Assists in gathering and analyzing historical financial cost accounting data for generation facilities.
  • Provides reconciliation of generation unit project construction accounts.
  • Forecasts and transfers funds into appropriate accounts as required for monthly construction and O&M owners deposits.
  • Works with treasury and investment management to compile cash flow projections and models.
  • Prepares and analyzes key financial information for board and other key financial presentations.
  • Generates reports, graphs and charts as requested using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and/or other financial applications.
  • Analyzes accounting, financial and operating data to identify trends or deviations from budgeted costs and notifies management of such variances. Investigates monthly interest earnings budget variances and reports on findings.
  • Provides quarterly Balance Sheet and Statement of Net Revenue variance explanations assigned to Financial Services.
  • Uses professional judgement to make decisions necessary to support corporate and departmental objectives and completes analyses and investigation to properly respond to routine requests and special projects.
  • Prepares month-end accrual entries including accrued interest, unamortized premium and discount on all outstanding MEAG debt including running month-end accrual report and verify proper entries are prepared.
  • Prepares Authorized Expenditure requests for all MEAG debt service payments at appropriate payment dates including gathering proper supporting documentation and obtain authorized signatures for payment.
  • Updates the Debt Database
  • Performs other duties of a similar or related nature and assists in other phases of departmental assignments.


Required Skills:

  • High degree of analytical financial capability and attention to detail
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems with minimal supervision
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Experience in developing and preparing financial models
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or accounting
  • 0-5 years of experience that includes a history of demonstrating a progression in responsibilities
  • Experience in cash management, treasury operations, municipal/utility finance, accounting, investments, banking, financial markets and/or debt instruments and structures is preferred
