The Catholic Diocese of Richmond Office of Finance is seeking a full time Finance Project Manager & Auditor.

This position supports the Finance Office by providing monthly analysis of diocesan Catholic School financial statements, serving as financial analyst on parish and school specific projects and by performing parish and school internal audits on a cyclical basis as needed. This position will be an accounting resource and will serve as ParishSoft subject matter expert.

The position will support the general office administration of the Finance Office as noted below.

Essential Functions:

Financial Project Manager and Analyst (parish, schools, other entities):

  • Primary resource to support finance driven projects as needed.
  • Primary resource and super user of school and parish software package, acting as liaison to locations with accounting of transactions.
  • Performs first review of preliminary and final school budgets, year-end closings and monthly statements, identifying areas for further review.
  • Works with school and parish bookkeepers to correct financial transactions as needed from reviews, including recommending journal entries and best accounting practices.
  • Works in conjunction with Director of Finance and Internal Audit group on communications and education of parish and school locations, including but not limited to, providing suggestions, comments, updates to Called To Stewardship, School Policy book, other Finance Office policies.
  • Assists formal and informal workshops/training sessions for parish business managers and bookkeepers on diocesan policies, practices and procedures. This may include training and continuing education for priests, parish staff and/or parish finance council members.

Internal Auditor (parish, schools, other entities):

  • Performs cyclical parish, school and other entities audits to include review of sound financial policies, implementation of internal controls and compliance with diocesan policies.
  • Carries out other special audit assignments as necessary at direction of CFO, Director of Finance, or Internal Auditor Manager.

Performs other duties as assigned by the CFO, Director of Finance and Internal Audit Manager.

Educational / Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, CPA preferred, at least 3 years of experience, including not for profit and fund accounting. CPA firm experience preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of auditing, accounting, budgeting methods and financial reporting is required. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Required skills include planning and organization, interpersonal, time management, concise writing, data analysis and attention to detail. Must be able to multi-task, meet deadlines, and adapt as needed to changing priorities.


Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. May require prolonged driving, standing, walking and/or sitting; physical exertion to manually, move, lift, carry, pull or push objects or materials up to 15 pounds; and occasional stooping, bending and reaching.

Working Conditions:

The Finance Project Manager & Auditor is a full-time position (35 hours per week) scheduled for 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday – Friday. Occasionally, extra hours may be required. In state travel is required. Must maintain a good driving record. Hybrid remote telework is available after orientation period.
