Type of position: Full-time, year round, starting $18.50/hr
Primary Purpose and Function: Demonstrate professional behavior with a team-based mentality to ensure that all products produced and harvested by Walters Gardens are produced to the highest quality standard in an efficient, safe, and economical way.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Daily Chemical and fertilizer Applications
- Be responsible for daily chemical applications
- Herbicide application on all new plantings that require spray
- Fungicide and Insecticide applications based on annual spray rotation
- All chemical applications based on scouting results
- Foliar nutrient applications as necessary
- Large scale herbicide burn downs of open areas
- Ensure accurate rates of chemical are being applied in accordance with chemical label
- Be responsible for properly posting all chemical applications
- Be responsible for communicating with Production Coordinator and Irrigation Supervisor necessary sprays and timing in accordance with their schedules
- Apply fertilizer as needed
- Maintain and update Annual Spray Rotation
- Be responsible for maintaining and updating the annual spray rotation
- stay up to date on new chemistry and adding it to our rotation
- continue to make adjustments to our rotation to make sure we are using the best practices
- Scouting
- Use Integrated Pest Management techniques for monitoring plant health issues and applying appropriate remedies
- Be the lead role in maintaining field pesticide records in accordance with State and Federal Laws
- Be the lead role in maintaining cleanliness and organization of field pesticide storage
- Maintain accurate chemical inventories
- Perform Chemical and Fertility R and D Trials
- Assist Crop and Fertility manager by identifying R and D trials
- Assist Crop and Fertility manager with setting up and carrying out R and D trials
- Complete, organize and maintain R and D notes
- Continually look for new herbicide chemistry to use on noxious weeds
- Fumigation
- Be fully crossed trained in fumigation
- Assist Fumigation tech with movement of materials
- Relieve fumigation tech during lunch and breaks to keep equipment moving
- Maintenance
- Be responsible for annual winter maintenance on all plant health equipment
- 3 3 pt sprayers
- Driveway sprayer
- in row hooded herbicide sprayer
- Fumigation rig

- Team Responsibilities
- Communicate any problems or concerns to appropriate manager immediately
- Carry a positive attitude and help supervise and train other staff in certain job responsibilities
- Follow and uphold company policies
- Utilize your experience within the context of Walters Gardens
- Become proficient with knowledge of plants, process, and equipment.
- Complete other duties as assigned by manager
Knowledge and Skills
- 3- 5 years related work
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
- Computer skills in Microsoft office necessary
- Elevated organizational and math skills a plus
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Some weekends and long days required based on seasonality of work
- Ability to obtain WG Hilo operator license
- Ability to operate equipment
