We are looking for a reliable Safety Manager to ensure everyone in the company complies with health and safety laws. You will be responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace. As a safety manager you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year

You are a fit for this role if you have ALL of the following:

1- Willingness to be on call 365 days a year

2- Ability and willingness to travel up to 80% (by company vehicle)

3- You reside within 45 minutes of the location for which you applied.

4- You have recent experience (last two years) in heavy equipment, construction, oil and gas.

We are seeking an Adaptable individual who will fit in with our culture and has a deep understanding of the importance of team work, learning about your team and someone who has the ability to combine safety enforcement with competency and training. Heavy equipment is REQUIRED along with hands on experience developing, creating and implementing training materials for utilization of heavy equipment (Vac Trucks, Excavators, Backhoe's, Sidebooms, Wheel Loaders, Dozers etc to name a few) as well as experience with conducting virtual safety training. This position requires a high level of proficiency in technology (computers and web based platforms)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics

Skills

  • Proven experience as safety manager
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

Requirements

  • Change agent regarding safety culture
  • Able to demonstrate previous success regarding safety culture and leading & lagging indicators.
  • First Aid/CPR trained.
  • HAZWOPER certification.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, FRA regulations and standards.
  • Experience with Behavior Based Safety.
  • BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety.
  • Ability to develop and present training for various safety topics including: HAZWOPER, LOTO, mobile equipment, shop safety, electrical, confined space, pinch points, driving, forklifts, emergency response plans, emergency action plans, lessons learned and corrective actions, pro-active safety culture and other topics based on the scope of work.
