Job Summary


The part-time position reports to the Director of Upward Bound Math Science (Thomaston). The primary goal of this position is to aid and support the faculty and students in the Thomaston Upward Bound Math Science Program. The assistant will provide accurate and timely information to staff, via phone, e-mail or online. Additionally, this student would be expected to support staff in constructing basic documents, making copies, proof-reading, creating announcements, filing and scanning as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all student activities and conducts group and individual counseling sessions
  • Provides academic advisement and recruits potential students
  • Assists senior participants with college admissions and financial aid applications
  • Conducts workshops with parents and students
  • Assists with chaperoning participants for Upward Bound activities
  • Visits target schools weekly to meet with students
  • Assists academic instructors with after-school tutoring supervision
  • Maintains student file and conduct interviews with parents of potential student participants
  • Assists program director with new student orientation
  • Maintains working relationships with target school counselors and other key school personnel
  • Coordinates pre and post testing of students and follow up with program graduates
  • Coordinates summer class schedules for students
  • Assists program director with grant writing; assisting program director with program evaluation
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the program director.

Required Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at Atlanta Metropolitan State College
  • Must be eligible for a Federal Work Study Award.
  • In academic good standing with a minimum 2.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Complete FAFSA
  • Demonstrate FA need
  • Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours

Shift Specifics

  • Flexible work schedule with availability between the hours of 8:30 AM - 7:00 PM Monday through Thursday; 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM Friday

  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments
  • Attention to detailed and the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Ability to work well in a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
