PURPOSE

The Service technician Trainee is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, repair, and upkeep of all Campus Auxiliary Services owned and operated facilities both on and off-campus, under the general supervision of the Facilities Service Technicians or the Director of facilities. In addition, the Technician Trainee will occasionally be called upon to support cross-functional project work in other CAS Depts., CAS services such as catering, concessions, and special events. The Technician Trainee will represent the CAS Facilities department

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists win the performance of repair of commercial equipment including but not limited to cooking, refrigeration, beverage, ware washing, ventilation and other kitchen equipment within CAS foodservice operations under the direction of facilities Services Technicians
  • Assists with common repairs to buildings and site property including ceilings, walls, floors and structural elements by working with all construction materials and finished
  • Assists senior technicians in preventative maintenance on restaurant equipment and site property including; parking lots, driveways, grounds and all interior and exterior areas of buildings
  • Assists as required, programmed testing or inspection od equipment and systems such as laundry equipment, fire extinguishers, ladders safety equipment, etc.
  • Assists with various off campus duties with buildings, structural repairs and upkeep and overall grounds maintenance (lawn, snow removal)
  • Demonstrates awareness of their functions able to perform while performing work orders and sets up authorization for future repair
  • Supports senior technicians’ wit the maintenance of campus wide laundry equipment in the residence halls and off campus facilities
  • Maintains interfaces with manufacturers and vendors to acquire repair, spare items, materials, technical support and documentation as needed
  • Other duties may be assigned to reach individual and organizational goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent skills and abilities
  • 0-1 years’ experience in the maintenance field with a solid understanding of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration, schematics and troubleshooting. OR
  • 2 years trade school plus two years in maintenance field
  • Food service equipment and/or commercial laundry equipment maintenance preferred but not required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Bend, stoop, kneel crouch and twist
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Repetitive motion such as grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, pulling and reaching
  • Varying temperatures and conditions including humid, damp, cold, hot
  • Moderate computer use

  • FSLA Status: Hourly
