Consumer Credit Review is responsible for independently evaluating the adequacy and accuracy of lending decisions, consistent application of risk policy and credit procedures, analysis of underwriting standards and practice, and determining through ongoing monitoring the overall assessment of asset quality. Furthermore, Consumer Credit Review assesses whether sufficient controls are in place to mitigate credit risk to the firm. Consumer Credit Review focuses on portfolios within the Consumer & Community Banking and Asset & Wealth Management Mortgage lines of business. This position will report to the Head of Consumer Credit Review and is located in Columbus, OH, Wilmington, DE or Plano, TX.

The Credit Review Executive Director will lead, manage and develop a team of Reviewers and Reviewers-in-Charge that are generally aligned with sub-lines of business (LOB) groups, ensure quality and timely completion of projects and has authority to approve the content of work output in the official system of record.

The Credit Review Executive Director will lead activities that evaluate consumer, auto, credit card, home lending and business banking loan transactions and perform assessments of underwriting and portfolio management to independently opine on the adequacy of underwriting analysis, appropriateness of credit mitigation actions, the effectiveness of the credit management process and controls supporting credit quality and overall assessment of direction of risk. Between periodic reviews, the Credit Review Executive Director will lead efforts that independently monitor credit risk and emerging trends, attend relevant meetings and develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders responsible for the credit process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide team direction and assistance with Credit Review activities.
  • Coordinate team assignments, drive project scope and sample selection, evaluate internal controls and systems that mitigate credit risk, communicate with business and risk management, review results and issue identification/dimensioning, recommend corrective action as needed and ensure archival of work papers and final reports.
  • Perform continuous monitoring of assigned portfolios and participate in portfolio review meetings.
  • Challenge the team to be innovative in coverage and approach, coaching on how to drive change.
  • Drive opportunities to understand and promote data analytics initiatives that support the department objectives.
  • Serve as an information resource on consumer credit risk, policy and strategies.
  • Partner with Credit Risk Management stakeholders to establish strong working relationships while maintaining independence.
  • Ensure consistent application of firm-wide Risk Policy as well as Credit Review Policies and Procedures.
  • Openly communicate and cascade messages from the leadership team, stakeholders, and regulators.
  • Engage in Industry and business forums to maintain current knowledge of the business and recommend changes when needed.
  • Influence credit review methodology and operating processes across the department, working with Practices to ensure the methodology keeps pace with environmental change.
  • Influence training to promote continuous learning.
  • Lead an environment where all individuals are treated with fairness and respect as well as engaging in and influencing diversity initiatives to create an inclusive environment.
  • Complete special projects and research as assigned by the Head of Consumer Credit Review.

Qualifications:
  • Experienced credit professional with minimum 10-years consumer and mortgage credit experience, preferably with a background in credit underwriting, risk analytics and credit risk management.
  • Successful completion of formal credit training program preferred, but not necessary.
  • Previous credit review experience is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated understanding of consumer credit principles and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required with ability to present complex and sensitive issues to management.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, effective in a dynamic fast-paced environment and willing to demonstrate personal responsibility and accountability.
  • Proven ability and desire to learn quickly, be flexible, and think strategically.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently, with a high sense of urgency.
  • Works well individually and in teams, shares information, supports colleagues, and encourages participation.
  • Flexibility to travel as required.
