Estimator for Multi-Family Housing Construction

Job Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for building a bidder’s list of qualified local contractors, distributing bid packages, and collection and leveling of bids to produce a budget from construction documents. Their duties include communicating with personnel and contractual professionals or vendors, to produce a budget with substantial coverage from all trades and vendors, and to make presentations to project team outlining their budget and bid day, such that the project management team can successfully contract and build the project.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing requirement documents, blueprints and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project.
  • Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.
  • Preparing cost estimates for the product or service form historical data
  • Investigate local are to build bidders list of qualified vendors and subcontractors that provides for competitive bid day
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors.
  • Managing bids from vendors and contractors.
  • Using bid data to prepare detailed a cost estimate
  • Presenting prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Report writing and strategic planning skills
  • Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for large projects
  • Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and database managers
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional time management skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, finance, accounting, statistics or another related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience estimating costs in a relevant industry.
  • Certified Professional Estimator preferred, but not required.
