The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a mid to senior career, highly skilled Imagery Analyst, responsible for analysis and quality control of collected overhead imagery. Candidates should possess familiarity in two or more of the following areas:

  • Familiarity with Geospatial Imagery data collection, reduction, and analysis. Image analysis techniques and algorithms using Matlab, IDL or equivalent tools.
  • Experience in analyzing EO-IR satellite sensor data including validation of the collected data and troubleshooting observed artifacts in the collected imagery.
  • Knowledge of processes used during EO-IR sensor post-launch & early on-orbit (LEOT) checkout phase, including optimizing sensor parameters for best performance
  • Creating performance models and simulations to predict imaging system performance.
  • Developed or evaluated target tracking algorithms for either ballistic or maneuvering targets in cluttered backgrounds
  • Missile defense domain expertise

Responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing image products from on-orbit platforms to verify sensor performance and confirm results from experiment test plans
  • Performing mission-level performance analysis using data from individual sensors as part of an overall constellation or system
  • Create/Improve analysis tools for performing simulations
  • Develop new or enhance existing experiment plans as required to support on-orbit sensor operations
  • Identify key sensor parameter changes that could support follow-on generations of satellites and sensors to accomplish USSF objectives
  • Working with cross-disciplinary teams on multiple complex space projects
  • Reducing mission concepts to fundamental elements that can be expressed as requirements
  • Providing written products documenting analysis, test plans, and performance results

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in image science, physics, applied physics, or optical science + 15 years experience in a field that includes the use of geospatial tools for scientific analysis
  • Knowledge of systems engineering techniques and their application to large DoD development programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with program management, customers, contractors, and colleagues
  • Knowledge of radiometry, calibration, and estimating EO/IR sensor system performance
  • Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance and ability to obtain a DoD TS/SCI security clearance
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to contractor and customer facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in image science, physics, applied physics, or optical science and specific experience in a field that includes the use of geospatial tools for scientific analysis
  • Working knowledge of state-of-the-market hardware and software capabilities used in missile defense sensor systems
  • Previous EO-IR sensor calibration experience
  • Experience writing technical papers and procedures
  • Experience supporting system level testing and verification
  • Successful working with and collaborating with teams of engineers
