PRIMARY FUNCTION:


Responsible for design and development of facilities to extend and enhance the IT Infrastructure for all telephony service and support, relating to all telecommunications technology, to include: Cisco VoIP, Unity, AVST voicemail systems, ACD, IVR and traditional telecommunications systems, networks, and vendor specific hardware and software. Interacts with end-users and all levels of management in developing turn key solutions to problems or creating efficiencies pertaining to telecom processes that impact the business.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Plans and configures voice and data communications equipment throughout the campus and remote sites, including wireless communications devices, Cisco switches, Cisco VoIP telephones, and other telecommunications equipment and systems, including Northern PBX and Centrex.
  • Responsible for resilient (clustered) IP based phone system installed across dual data centers and multiple locations. Design, configuration, and support Cisco Call Manager including firmware updates, trunking, adding new locations, phone numbers, managing carriers within the systems, and providing new functionality to the user community.
  • Participate / Lead multi-discipline design teams to provide solutions and capacity planning of a complex VoIP infrastructure.
  • Design, develop, configure and sustain engineering support of all communications and collaboration services including VoIP network interfaces to the PSTN, including SIP gateways, UC Application Servers,Media Resourses and Cisco Unified Border Elements (CUBE) IP phones, training, Telecom carrier services, E911, web conferencing, audio conferencing center, unified messaging and mobility.
  • Responsible for researching emerging technologies in the area of communication and collaboration, keeping abreast of industry technology trends, available products and services.
  • Respond to issue escalation and service interruption as required. Operational support responsibilities including, performance tuning, license management, installation of software upgrades, user support, and systems monitoring. Works closely with internal technical teams and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve any incidents and problems.
  • Provide Operation Support on & off hours; including but not limited to build and/or upgrade support.
  • Create design documentation including “as built” documents, design summaries, migration plans, and Visio diagrams as appropriate. Documents internal process, end user documentation and builds knowledge base for the IS&T organization as it relates to technical details, project details, and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain effective external relationships with vendors, consultants, and service providers; leverages these relationships to ensure that the best fit solutions and resources available to Jefferson.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Works with telecommunications carriers for troubleshooting of voice and data digital and analog circuits. SIP, T1 & PRI implementations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental concepts used in all telecommunication systems

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three years in a data communications/network operations position;

Five years of experience as a Field Service Technician in a large PBX environment to include installation,maintenance and repair.

Centrex knowledge preferred.In-depth knowledge and expertise in Cisco VoIP preferred. Previous experience in Cat5, Cat6 environments to include installation, maintenance and repair. Fiber Optic knowledge a plus.
