Position: Employment & Outreach Specialist
Program/Department: Center for College & Careers
Location: 256 Washington Street, Mount Vernon
Hours: Full-Time 35hrs per week, on site
Pay Rate $23/hr
Position Summary: The Center for College & Careers (CCC) is at the heart of our youth and young adult programs. The CCC transforms the lives of youth and young adults (ages 13-24) so they can pursue post-secondary education or start on a career track. CCC helps participants develop skills and confidence while creating opportunities for them to have successful futures in whatever path they choose. The Employment and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for securing internships and/or employment for WIOA participants, ages 16-24. The Employment and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for interacting with businesses across Westchester County to identify partnership and career-building opportunities for program participants.
Responsibilities: The core duties and responsibilities of the Employment and Outreach Coordinator includes:
  • Identify participant's interests and career plans to recruit employers.
  • Develop employer contacts for placement of program participants.
  • Coordinate career workshops, evaluation, skill training, job-readiness training, resume building, interview techniques, and other activities related to employment (R.E.A.D.I)
  • Coordinate Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
  • Coordinate the construction training program, FutureWorks to FutureCareers.
  • Conduct on-site interviews with potential partners and employers.
  • Communicate with employers and make note of our expectations, their expectations, and participants' responsibilities.
  • Provide case management services to program participant’s.
  • Recruit at least 20 WIOA program participants.
  • Assist program participants in planning for construction training or employment.
  • Collect, review, prepare, and submit data and program reports.
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate paid and non-paid work experiences for students.
  • Review/update program database OSOS weekly.
  • Follow-up with job coaching to ensure at least 3 months’ retention
  • Provide READI training and other career development workshops to program participants.
  • Support a high-performing culture aligned with TGCW core values and B.A.S.I.C Tenets: Balance, Accountability, Satisfaction, Inclusion, and Communication.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work, Sociology, or related field.
  • A passion and desire to work with, and advocate for, at-risk youth, many of whom may have multiple barriers to employment.
  • Excellent communication skills and counseling abilities.
  • Strong networking skills and ability to connect with professionals from different industries.
  • Knowledge in management and recruitment procedures.
  • Knowledge of labor market trends/requirements, and skills/abilities required in a wide variety of occupations.
  • Ability to engage and motivate disconnected youth.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop employment plans with program participants.
  • Proficiency is MS Office (MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
  • Natural ability to be flexible, creative, and tech savvy.
  • Familiarity with Southern Westchester, specifically Mt. Vernon and New Rochelle.
Travel Requirements: ~50%
