Position Summary
Assists employees with benefits enrollment and questions, verifies all insurance billing, maintains employee database and files, and ensures compliance with required benefit notices. Performs human resources duties investigation and resolution of Employee Relations issues including EEOC compliance, disputes and other related matters. Create and issue report about each incident. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers; develops and directs strategies on internal and external customer service.
  • Assists/conducts new employee orientation
  • Assist HR manager of employee relations and benefits in presenting and obtaining benefit information and enrollments.
  • Works in collaboration with other team members in the HR department and functional partners in budget and payroll
  • Assist with creation, coordination, and preparation of hearing panels.
  • Assist the facilitation of peer to peer and employee to manager communications, including issues understanding and resolution.
  • Assist with issue and complaint intake and investigation process.
  • Assist corrective action and disciplinary procedure steps based on issue severity and results of investigations.
  • Prepare benefit reports
  • Assist in updating system of record with changes to benefit enrollments, dependents, deductions, etc.
  • Assist in updating system of record with changes to FMLA leave
  • Help manage and maintain ER records, creation through disposal.
  • Help manage employee benefits program. This includes but is not limited to Retirement plans (both defined benefit and defined contribution), voluntary savings plans, Basic (covered) life insurance, voluntary life insurance, health insurance, , leave programs (including shared leave and other special leave programs), tuition assistance, long-term disability, workers compensation, phased retirement, etc.
  • Utilizing current HRIS system, help audit all benefit programs and deductions to insure accurate coverage and premium collections.
  • Serves as College representative to NMPSIA, benefit providers, and all third parties
  • Help coordinate, plan, and conduct new employee orientation (should be a benefit duty)
  • Receives, responds, and represents the College in all NM DWS inquiries in a prepared and timely manner
  • Helps to coordinate: selection of benefits, enrollment, renewal, and delivery of benefits information to the employees.
  • Helps to monitor government regulations and market trends to ensure that programs are current, competitive, and legal.
  • Helps ensure that benefits plans comply with federal and state regulations and SFCC policies.
  • Helps maintain benefits records, creation through disposal.
  • Responsible for assessing technology and reporting system needs within benefits function and strategizes best practices.
  • Will assist in all functions relating to FMLA practices at the college, including utilizing current HRIS
  • Will assist in all functions related to ACA requirements, including recording, auditing, revising, and reporting on behalf of the college.
  • Administrative duties as assigned
  • Perform additional duties and contribute to projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in human resources, business administration, office management or a related field.
  • Minimum of Three (3) year direct experience in human resources, business or a related field
  • Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Background check required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, office management or a related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year direct experience in human resources, business or a related field
  • Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Background check required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • SPHR, PHR or related certification
  • Experience with BANNER software
  • Experience with Workday software
  • Experience using Microsoft office software including excel, outlook and word
  • Employee relations experience
Work Hours
  • Typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.
