Job Description

We are seeking an electrical engineer to support the manufacturing engineering team in streamlining the manufacture of new and existing light-based medical device products, monitor and improve reliability, and introduce new products to manufacturing.

As part of a manufacturing engineering group that introduces new products to manufacturing and supports those products through end of life, you will specialize in the electronics of sophisticated laser systems. The ideal candidate would have experience with electronics, and troubleshooting, printed circuit boards assemblies, and electronic components including component selection, specification review and end of life management. This position provides a fast paced, multi-project environment where you can make an immediate impact on product quality.

Key responsibilities:

  • As manufacturing engineer specializing in electronics, rapidly respond to production issues to evaluate problems and provide solutions for short and long-term issues
  • Assist in resolving electronic component obsolescence issues while working closely with suppliers to stay appraised of electronic component lifecycles and lead-times which may include design and implement verification testing of replacement components
  • Provide supporting documentation for work instructions, engineering changes and production deviations
  • Provide guidance to R&D and the Contract Manufacturer (CM) to ensure that PCBA can be AOI, ICT and FCT tested
  • Specify and assist in development of manufacturing test and assembly fixtures. Define and perform test equipment maintenance
  • Gain deep system understanding to perform design verification tests of laser assemblies and supporting systems
  • Analyze field reliability data to propose design improvements. Provide design feedback for manufacturability, serviceability, and reliability
  • Act as a technical lead or project manager as needed for significant sustaining engineering initiatives

Qualifications
  • Strong electronics background with interest in learning lasers/optics systems
  • Experience with PCBA manufacture, required documentation and test protocols
  • Understand technical specifications of components and ability to read schematics
  • Experience with PCB design tools, Altium is preferred
  • Very hands-on, with strong analytical and experimental problem-solving skills, ability to learn to troubleshoot and perform verification & validation testing for laser/optical systems
  • Intuitive internet search skills needed. Some familiarity with various distribution channels as well as the global broker market and the ability to source hard to find electronics on the market is helpful
  • Experienced using software tools such as MS Excel, MATLAB, Igor, or equivalent to analyze and process experimental data. Experienced with oscilloscopes, meters, analyzers, etc

Education & Experience:

  • BSEE or equivalent
  • 0-3 years of electronics manufacturing engineering experience
  • PCBA CM supplier experience preferred

Preferred:

  • Experience with LabView. Salesforce, and Arena or SAP is helpful
  • Background in the medical device, laser, radio frequency device, or capital equipment manufacturing industries is helpful
