RydeTrans was founded in 1979 and incorporated in 1996 to provide safe and high-quality transportation to people in the East Bay. We serve a diverse group of institutional customers such as public transit agencies, governmental entities, school districts, health care providers, and social service agencies, as well as private customers. We provide a wide array of transportation products, including paratransit, fixed route, shuttle, charter services as well as ADA eligibility assessments.

We are looking for Candidates who have open availability, have a flexible schedule, and are open to working weekends and some evenings. Our Candidates should be able to commit to a 4-week PAID driver training program and be able to start ASAP! No previous experience is needed; however, you must be at least 21 years of age, have had the CA Class C Driver's License for at least 3 years, have a safe driving record, have the ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, and be customer service oriented.

This is a union job with PAID training at $19.00/hr (approximately 3 - 4 weeks) and regular wage increases.

This is a socially responsible job. You'll be transporting the elderly and people with disabilities primarily around the East Bay.

Proof of vaccination is required for this position.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Drives one of several different vehicle types in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner throughout the contracted service area within a daily assigned time schedule.
  • Properly fills out and completes daily manifest. Depending on the location, this may be accomplished electronically through an onboard tablet/computer, or handwritten.
  • Performs pre/post trip vehicle inspections as required.
  • Possess functional knowledge of the demographics of the service area.
  • Stops at designated points to board and/or deboard passengers.
  • May assist in the boarding of passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids and is required to properly secure wheelchairs, scooters, or other mobility aids.
  • Notifies dispatch of deviations, overload, accidents, passenger incidents, medical/behavioral problems, or bus mechanical/electrical trouble.
  • Assures that fares, if required, are collected and dispenses information. Advises passengers of rules and regulations when necessary.
  • Completes and submits written reports concerning passengers and all accidents.
  • Operates on-board computer systems including but not limited to mobile computers, tablets, fare boxes, destination signs, and in vehicle camera systems.
  • Assumes any and all other duties assigned.
  • Maintains a strong attendance record.
  • Must drive to any assigned location, which may involve driving over bridges and through tunnels.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and perform basic mathematical procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict timelines.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must read and understand street signs, route sheets, and maps.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work shift hours and days assigned.
  • All incoming East Bay Drivers who do not possess a Class B License will need to get their Class B License within 6 months of employment.
  • Proof of vaccination is required for this position.
