Driver Helper

Job Duties
:

The main duty of a Driver’s Helper is to assist the Truck Driver with all responsibilities related to loading, delivering, and unloading products to customers. The products include, but are not limited to exterior door units, interior door units, mouldings, and plywood. In addition to loading and unloading duties, the Driver’s Helper is expected to help navigate to each destination and keep their respective team on time for daily deliveries.

Each Driver Helper is expected to:

  • Report to their assigned truck no later than 6 am.
  • Assist the Driver with loading and proper securing of products for delivery.
  • Verify all paperwork is present for deliveries to be made on run.
  • Ensure no excess or random materials or products are present in the truck.
  • Keep your Driver and team mates on schedule. Your truck should be on the road within 45 minutes each morning (6:45 am).
  • At each delivery destination, the Driver’s Helper will exit the vehicle and assist the driver with backing up the truck to prevent damage to either the delivery location, product, or TBC delivery vehicle.
  • Help with the unloading of all products at every destination and assist in verifying all products have been received. If needed, Helper should also verify paperwork and photos have been completed by driver and customer.
  • Represent The Building Center with pride. This includes presenting themselves in a neat and orderly fashion. Please avoid foul language, smoking, or arguing while at a customer’s delivery site.
  • Make at least 2 delivery runs per day. However, all scheduled orders are expected to be delivered each day.
Skills required :

Helpers should be able to:

  • Read a map and/or operate a GPS device
  • Lift 50 pounds
  • Communicate effectively
  • Understand and be able to perform spotting duties for the Driver when backing up, turning around, and docking
  • Exhibit good time management
Work Environment :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 50+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work in high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather); and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
