Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Driver Trainer provides driver training, education, and on-going support & development. This position is responsible to utilize the company supported driver training and safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and safety performance standards are achieved and upheld.
The role will require skills and knowledge of safe driving practices as well as adult learning principles, and includes training, planning, communication, and motivation. An effective Driver Trainer is a role model, coach, mentor, guide, and teacher.
The candidate for this role requires knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and contractual requirements. Successful candidates will demonstrate a safe driving record with acceptable accident/injury and DriveCam performance. Additionally, the candidate will demonstrate a great attendance history, consistently demonstrate a cooperative and encouraging attitude. Finally, the candidate will need to be flexible and result oriented with the ability to communicate with trainees in an effective and non-intimidating manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Driver training– Executes entry level driver training programs and documents comprehension, competency, and program completion as required by company policy and regulations
- Driver development – Supports ongoing driver development through the delivery of DriveCam event coaching, safety refresher programs and driver evaluation programs
- Supports regulatory compliance – Delivers and documents all regulated training to drivers as required by Federal, State, Local or contractual requirements
- Interdepartmental support - Establishes and maintains effective business relationships by providing support to internal and external stakeholders when required
Requirements:
- Appropriate licensing for the vehicle class and service type
- Successful operation of the vehicle and service type
- Ability to gain and maintain the trust, respect, and confidence of co-workers and supervisors
- Recommendation from direct supervisor and manager
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to periodically travel within the assigned Region, with a willingness to travel outside of the assigned region
Preferred qualifications:
- Previous success providing training, direction, guidance, or coaching to drivers
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and transportation related software and telematics
