Job Description:

The Director of Student Success will supervise the Student Success Center. Student Success staff serve a critical role in advising first-year and transfer students, assisting students with transfer, and providing support for career exploration. In addition, the Student Success Center provides services to students with disabilities, assists veteran students with VA regulations, manages the early alert system, and oversees student organizations. The Director will provide leadership in all areas of the Center's operations, oversee the Center's budget, evaluate staff, analyze retention trends, recommend strategies to improve college-wide retention, and assess effectiveness of programs housed in the Student Success Center. The Director will also oversee placement exams administered through the Student Success Center and ensure all staff complete appropriate training to administer exams. In addition, the Director will manage the process for students to change majors, and assign faculty advisors in the SIS with input from academic leaders. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising services to current and potential students.
  • Assist students with identifying needed courses and planning a course schedule.
  • Administer exams, including the ACCUPLACER, as needed to support student placement and enrollment.
  • Oversee the planning, coordination and evaluation of student organizations.
  • Maintain a welcoming and supportive learning environment in the Student Success Center.
  • Prepare, administer, and manage the annual budget for the Student Success Center.
  • Ensure staff in the Student Success Center approach students with a positive attitude and a growth mindset.
  • Develop, implement, and assess plans for continuous improvement in conjunction with staff in the Student Success Center and academic leaders.
  • Collect, analyze, and use relevant data to inform decisions about the operations, policies, and strategic direction of the Student Success Center.
  • Maintain knowledge of current developments and trends in advising practice, best practices and innovations related to student retention, and the Center's role in supporting student engagement and success.
  • Maintain knowledge of testing regulations and ensure all testing standards and requirements are consistently met.
  • Establish personnel responsibilities, accountability standards, and work schedules for assigned staff.
  • Assist in the development and planning of professional learning opportunities for faculty advisors.
  • Coordinate with academic deans and/or department chairs to ensure the Student Success staff stay up-to-date on curriculum and program changes.
  • Analyze trends in student success and retention strategies, academic advising processes, and make recommendations to address the College's current and future needs.
  • Communicate testing requirements and available testing times with current and future students through email communication, flyers, and coordination with the Marketing Department as needed.
  • Participate in professional development appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years full-time experience advising college students.
  • Working knowledge of the Internet and commonly used computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of advising strategies for community college students.
  • Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse staff and student population.
  • Ability to work independently.

Special Demands:

  • Work primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • Sedentary, sitting, walking, occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent near vision use for reading and computer use.
  • Occasional stressful situations and/or situation involving complex interpersonal communication.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
