JCC Greater Boston is seeking a collaborative, visionary leader, experienced in developing exceptional programs for children, youth and families. The ideal candidate will be a creative self-starter that has capacity in creative program development, community engagement, and utilizing data to guide decision-making. The Director of Family Programming oversees a dynamic and supportive team which produces extensive programming including Discovery Club After School, Magic Ark Performing Arts Series, hundreds of enrichment classes, special events, holiday programs, birthday parties, playgroups and much more. Family Programming works to create and enhance innovative, joyful, inclusive, and engaging programming, which serves and anticipates the needs of JCC members and the broader community.

The position requires a self-motivated person who will be responsible for managing both operational and programmatic elements within both Discovery Club After School and the broader Family Engagement & Jewish Life Department. Discovery Club is an active and engaging after-school program for children in grades K-5, located at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC in Newton, filled with enrichment programming, Jewish celebrations and values, learning and fun! Family Programming is a growing and vibrant team and this role offers many opportunities to have a significant impact across the JCC community. This is a full time position and requires a combination of weekday, and occasional evening and weekend work. Starting salary for the position is $73,000 - $82,000. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity. This position qualifies for the JCC Greater Boston benefits package which includes health care, flexible spending accounts, generous time off, JCC Greater Boston membership, an on-site fitness facility, as well as discounts of 20-100% for pre-school, afterschool and camp.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, strategic vision and management of children’s and family programming. Collaborate closely with other business units to support and implement identified family programming needs as well as to attract and maintain members. Create and enhance enriching programming and spaces that support family needs.
  • Design and implement signature events in support of organizational goals around Jewish holidays and special programs throughout the year to engage families with joyful experiences
  • Supervise Discovery Club Program Director and Family Programming Manager, as well as Family Programming Coordinators, as needed. Take a leadership role in designing resources and training to support front line staff on the needs of families.
  • Manage budgets for all programming above, determine and measure revenue goals, with quarterly assessments. Manage grant work around Discovery Club including research, reporting, data collection, evaluation, original writing, and content gathering to create funding requests and reports for major funders.
  • Manage operations of the Family Wing including scheduling, facilities, maintenance, equipment and continuing to make it a high-quality, state-of-the-art, clean, safe, accessible, engaging space for families.
  • Responsibilities are subject to change as the programs and position evolve

QUALIFICATIONS
The Director must be a collaborative, flexible and visionary programmer with exceptional experience developing youth, children’s and family programming. He/she/they must have demonstrated experience in leadership roles and managing dynamic teams. In addition to these qualities, the successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • Familiarity with non-profit programming, culture and mission. Passion for community building through informal and formal programming.
  • Exceptionally strong relationship builder capable of developing meaningful connections with families, children, and internal and external program partners and co-workers; exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent communicator (listening, written and verbal skills). Excellent project management skills. Highly organized and process oriented; both focused and flexible.
  • Able to pass CORI/SORI background check (state mandated)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Able to work well in a busy, dynamic and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks, priorities and stakeholders
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing at 30-40 pounds (boxes of supplies, children’s back packs etc.)
  • Able to sit and kneel, getting down at eye level with children regularly
