We are currently recruiting for the position of:


Director, Inventory Control & Optimization - Modesto, CA

The Director of Inventory Control and Optimization leads the inventory control team and initiatives in support of store operations and store management to drive their sales, reduce product loss, and right-sizing goods assortments and internal product flow and staging. The position collaborates with senior Operations management to direct and develop shrink control strategies for stores to enhance banner performance in product selection, merchandising strategies, cross-category promotion solutions, and customer satisfaction. The position collaborates with Operations and Support teams to provide direction and insight into current consumer preferences to assist banners in their objective for sales and profitability growth while reducing loss.

Essential Duties and Key Accountabilities:

  • Direct and lead the Inventory Control Team to assist stores to meet shrink targets while stores work to achieve sales, profitability and growth goals; provide leadership to Inventory Control and Inventory Optimization teams for opportunities to increase sales at the store level
  • Provide guidance to Stores, Operations, Merchandising, and support teams on shrink methodologies and best industry specific practices to aid in sales and profitability;
  • Develop and manage department budget and financial impact forecasts
  • Direct, develop and drive store inventory management processes and implementations through store process improvement, policy development, systems and standards related to shrink and inventory control across all banners.
  • Direct, monitor, and audit current standard operating procedures are implemented and continuously evaluate for improvement.
  • Collaborate with store operations senior management to propose and develop action plans to improve shrink and inventory control results
  • Review analysis and reporting to identify current and potential banner inventory opportunities
  • Collaborate with Operations and Loss Prevention management to establish shrink guidelines
  • Monitor, maintain and achieve key performance metrics; monitors product satisfaction indicators as key measurements in customer feedback; analyzes banner and customer feedback and applies appropriate response/feedback/action
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Hiring pay range: $129,948.00 - 170,557.00

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Demonstrated cultural change ability to drive efficiency improvement and processes
  • Strong ability to change and adapt to business needs
  • Knowledge of the marketplace, including competition, consumer behavior and demands and demographics
  • Broad understanding of business strategies and tactics work in the grocery retail environment
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of total retail grocery store operations
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing form based on audience
  • Ability to effectively negotiate in a variety of settings
  • Proven ability and experience to approach problems by using a logical, systematic, and sequential approach
  • Strong analytical and numerical ability to transform data into insightful information tailored to audience need

Education: Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Degree in Inventory Management or Business preferred; a Master’s degree is a plus

Experience: Minimum of ten years of directly related experience in inventory management or grocery retail management

Other: Occasional Travel required

Physical: Reach outward or reach above shoulder, lift/carry 10 lbs. or less, push/pull 10 lbs. or less, standing, sitting, walking, climbing, crawling, squatting, kneeling, bending, handling, visual demands including close work, auditory demands including phone equipment, and ability to operate a computer. Low noise, and moderate temperatures.
