Job Details:
Job Summary: Develop manuals in accordance with contract requirements. Manual development includes researching, writing, editing, data collecting, and publishing. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Researching particular project for specialized or unique requirements. This may include evaluating software packages, finding or setting up templates, or obtaining information on a specialized tool that is required for a procedure that is not provided to a customer.
- Writing procedures from engineering drawings, actual equipment, or descriptions provided by subject matter experts (SMEs).
- Editing and proof reading data for deliverables and non-deliverables.
- Data Collecting requires collecting manuals for delivery with the system, this can be either paper copies or electronic manuals. If manuals have copyright or other restrictions that prevent us from reproducing the material then a letter requesting permission must be obtained. Electronic versions may need to be found on the internet.
- Publishing a document is preparing the document for delivery to the customer. This includes validating the document internally and configuring files. The following may also be required based on contractual requirements: printing, 3-hole punch, front and back covers, binding, burn to CD and label, delivery (pick-up, email, portal, etc.) and configuring files.
- Read and understand contract requirements as they apply to manuals and follow applicable standards.
- Request, collect, and organize data from Logistics, R&M, CM, Engineering, customer, etc. to develop manuals
- Read and understand engineering drawings.
- Keep records of tasks completed and provide summaries of items needed to complete manuals.
- Estimate hours for manuals.
- Provide proposal input.
- Provide cost to complete on project.
- Provide status/percent complete.
- Attend meetings and provide overview to supervisor.
- Provide risk assessments on a program with respect to development of manuals.
- May be required to support other activities to whatever extent their skills and knowledge may allow.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Four year college degree, or equivalent, plus four years’ experience writing technical manuals. Familiar with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) requirements. Proficient in multiple desktop publishers and word processors. Capable of converting from one format to another. Must have strong computer skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Keep detailed records of work in a database or spreadsheet. Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form. Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance if necessary.
